Array like AutoCAD

Array like AutoCAD

Lots of ideas concerning arrays. Most of them can be wrapped up as: make array as in AutoCAD? I.e. with all the bells and whistles it has in AutoCAD .

I don't know what you're talking about. care to elaborate for people who has long since abandoned AutoCAD to the relics of time and the museums?

I would echo sarsenault.  For those of us who don't know how the AutoCAD array functions, it would be helpful to describe how you wish the Revit array tool would function.  I for one think the array tool functions fairly well for what it is.  But that's not to say there is much room for improvement.

I have to admit i have (much) more knowledge about how Autocad works than how Revit works. In Autocad (as in v.2018) there are 2 array commands :ARRAY and ARRAYCLASSIC. ARRAY works kind of parametric way, allowing dynamic resizing of the array elements (by stretching / using the blue grips), ARRAYCLASSIC works more manually, the array resizing being done in a dialog box. Both ARRAY commands allow a multi-axis generation of multiple array objects: by x-axis and by y-axis. E.g. 10 rows by 5 columns of objects. You can also do angled arrays (rotated arrays from the base angle 0.00) , polar arrays and even 3DARRAY (x numbers by y numbers by z numbers of objects). In Revit you can only do linear arrays of objects (by ONE axis only): first do 10 rows, then copy them 5 times to get an 10 by 5 array. In Autocad you can do it in one (single) step / command, in Revit you need 2 steps / commands (or even 3 steps, if you want something like a 3DARRAY). "Multiple copies" option in Revit is actually of some help, yet it doesn't allow multi-axis copies. ARRAY in Autocad is a matrix-like generation of objects, ARRAY in Revit is like childish replication of single object.

To complement ipselute: Array along a sketched path and, very important, the ability to rotate / not rotate the arrayed objects, like in a polar array.

@Simon_Weel: i believe Revit can do "multiple copies" along a path, and even multiple "polar" copies along a circle or arc, but it cannot "generate" multiple rows of those copies. You have to offset the path manually, then copy the array source object to the new (offset-ed) path, then do a new array along the new path. Kinda tedious and repetitive. You can easily rotate the copies by selecting them individually, then pressing Spacebar multiple times for multiple rotated positions.
