A component can be saved as an rfa file. Therefore, it is a family. Comprising of one single family type, yet still a family it is. 'Family type' term is very confusing to me. Family Types, Components, In-Place Components, In-Place Family: all these are too many terms with similar or overlapping meanings.
Just make Families comprising of Family Components.
When i insert a component, i practically insert a rfa file.
'Inserting component' , 'placing component' and 'loading (into project) component' are confusing terms. Too many terms for similar final results. Too many semantics, too many commands / buttons.
There should be a single (unified) concept of insertion:
Insert Component Instance:
- from (inside) project (when component is already loaded/available in the project)
- from Revit / Autodesk library
- from other sources like PC or internet.
Please bear in mind that not all Revit users are english-native speaking. For many users it's hard to navigate the english language and to remember the semantics of so many similar terms. It makes Revit hard to learn. Big markets like China, India, Russia are definitively lost-in-translation. We need short , simple words to define objects and actions, just like in Autocad.
