Align & Lock Schedules

Align & Lock Schedules

In my firm, we create multiple schedules per architectural division as keynotes and reference those keynotes in nearly every view. Graphically, we like to align each schedule on the sheet so they stack one on top of the other. The align tool is perfect for this but it does not allow us to lock the alignment. The issue lies when we add additional keynotes, we have to constantly double check the alignment of schedules to make sure they are not overlapping. If the lock function was possible, each schedule would automatically move as we add additional keynotes.

Thank you,

Matthew

@Anonymous: I believe this ideea is an absolute must for Revit. I've seen this ideea already implemented (for a long time) in Tekla. In Tekla every note/keynote and schedule can be aligned to a corner of a sheet (with additional offset, if necesary), and rules can be specified: what notes comes first, then second, then third etc. If any particular note/schedule increases or decreases in size, all the other notes will automatically (re)accommodate, like they are linked parametrically somehow.

I think there must be a "gap (offset)" parameter there, between the notes, and another "offset" parameter for alignment to the sheet border.

At least, we should have an extension for that. I think we could do it manually, but is tedious work to create those parameters with each project or so.

@ipselute: Great follow up. Offset parameters would be very helpful. Currently, we have to manually move the schedules to have the same offsets so it looks cohesive. Doesn't seem like much, but you do that over 70 sheets and you can begin to see the time savings this function would have. Moreover, the locking mechanism or parameter would avoid any of those last minute alignments missed that we only seem to find after Construction Documents have been issued. If only Autodesk Revit could implement this in their next version...

@Anonymous: I've seen steel structure projects done in Tekla with up to 2000 (two thousand!) sheets. It's just incredible how Tekla takes care about ALL the sheets in like 15-20 minutes for the most complex structures. It's just a shame Revit can't handle such obvious detail as keynote/schedule alignment, not even inside the title block.

I have created something which might help you.  It doesn't constantly align the keynote schedules, but it does allow you to align selected schedules or align all schedules in sheets(which you select using check boxes from a list of sheets containing 2 or more schedules).  You can direct message me for details if you think it could be useful to you.
