Adding References in text annotation

Adding References in text annotation

I would love it if Revit added a feature where you could layout a block of text and right click insert a link to a specific view and it is coded to update if that view number and/or sheet changes.  For instance on an RCP plan I have an outline of the roof hatch/shaft and would like to put a text note that says "SEE DETAIL # ON SHEET XYZ" similar to how word has the ability to do a table of contents and if you move sections or chapters around the table of contents can auto update.  Also not to unsimilar to a detail callout when a referenced view is used.

That would be great feature to have in general text. You can get what you're after already by modifying a view reference family.

@Lachlan-JWP could you explain what you said in more detail as my interpretation of that does not address what I commented on?

Place a view reference on your drawing. It can be the default Revit one, we'll modify it.

Select the view reference and "Edit Family"

Select one of the labels and edit it

Add in the text you would typically use as prefix/suffix, add spaces as required.

Load the view reference back into the project.

Select the view reference and you can assign which view you want it to point to.

You now have a dynamic view reference that will always update to show the location of that view.

This has been suggested and supported many times including this ideas thread originally started in 2016: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/view-references-in-text/idi-p/6423681

The method Lachlan-JWP has explained is a common workaround, but it is still a workaround! AutoCAD has been able to display references in line with text for ages with Fields and there is no excuse why Revit is still missing this and other basic text functionalities.
