Ability to merge types within the same category in Revit.

Ability to merge types within the same category in Revit.

When working with multiple users or linked models, it is very common to end up with several wall, floor, roof, etc. types that are practically the same but have small differences (names, parameters, materials, etc.). This causes:

  • Heavier files with too many unnecessary types.
  • Confusion and difficulties in managing the model.
  • Problems when trying to standardize a project or template.

Proposed improvement:
Introduce a “Merge Types” tool that allows:

  • Selecting one main type (e.g., “30cm Concrete Wall”).
  • Automatically replacing other equivalent types (e.g., “Wall 30cm Concrete”, “Concrete Wall 30”) with that selected type.
  • Ending up with only one unified type in the project, removing duplicates.

Main benefits:

  1. Cleaner and simpler projects.
  2. Reduced file size and better performance.
  3. Easier standardization across offices and collaborative teams.
  4. Avoiding the manual and time-consuming process of replacing types one by one or partially purging.

This feature would help keep models more organized and reduce the typical “pollution” that appears in large projects.
