Shadows not showing up when floor is drawn in

I've been struggling to figure out why my shadows are only showing up outside the walls of this house, and I think I've narrowed it down to the floor. When I add a floor, the shadows cast by the interior walls are no longer visible. I'm a bit of a beginner at Revit, so I'm not sure what to try.

1. Floor is drawn at Level 2

2. Walls are drawn at Level 2

3. Shadows are set to be cast at Level 2

4. This happens on the floor plan view and the 3D view

I've attached images of flooring drawn, and one with it removed. It's also worth noting, we're working with Design Options in this project, though that doesn't seem to be affecting it, and I'm working in Revit 2021

I think shutting down the computer is the very first troubleshooting step I ever learned.  Still use it today. Works like a charm more often than not.  😉

Here is a weird idea. Can you delete your local file and see when you recreate new local file it will fix the shadow problem?

We tried opening it on another PC, and the shadows are working. Mystery not solved, but at least we have it working on one computer.

Thanks everyone for your input!

You know, you may have an Add-In that is acting on the View.  Disable Add-ins to verify.

I'd also be looking at your graphics card. If you go to the Control Panel > Device Manager > Display Adapters, do you see a listing for more than 1 graphics card?

If you only see 1 card, is it an Intel branded one? In that case, the display of Shadows and realistic textures may be problematic. Intel GPU's are integrated into the CPU (your main processor). They tend to lack processing power and can't access higher graphics functions. If that's the case, and you have a workstation, not a laptop, then you might want to look at getting a dedicated graphics card such as an NVIDIA or AMD card.

If there are 2 GPU's listed then there will be a listing for an Intel GPU. My guess is that Revit is using the Intel GPU rather than the dedicated card.

If you have an NVIDIA card then hopefully you'll have the NVIDIA Control Panel installed in the Windows Control Panel. Close Revit and then go into the Windows Control Panel.

Open the application and go to the Manage 3D Settings section and in the right hand section, change the Global presets - Base Profile to "High-performance NVIDIA processor".

Hit the Apply button.

Restarting your PC would be a good idea.

Now go into Revit and see if that has ixed things.

Insert witty comment here.
