Elevation Tool is grayed out

I am doing blow out plans and interior elevations. When I make the call out for the plan the elevation butti0on is grayed out?

This is really frustrating!

Please help

Can you please share a sceen shot?

Do you mean the elevation symbol?

 

If you are talking about the elevation symbol, I would suggest checking if the "hide in views smaller than" is set to the correct scale of your view. Please see the image attached.

I figured out what was happening. What I started the Call out tool the type was set to "detail View" not "Floor Plan.

 

So now I am stuck with another situation, how do I change the callout detail views to callout floor plan views?

Unfortunately, once you've created a Detail view you CAN'T change it.

I just experienced this same issue. It's ridiculous that you can't add an elevation reference within a detail view. This issue is still present in R23...
