Unfold3D process error

I'm trying to unfold my UV map and I keep getting an error that says "// Error: Unfold3D process error." How can I resolve this?

This looks like an AMD issue. My 3990x gives me the error, whereas, my xeon works just fine. Hopefully a fix will come soon.

We are aware of the problem and are working on a fix.  Hope to get something out in an Update for released versions of Maya, and will report back here when we have something to test.

And it looks like 2019.3 was just made available:  https://help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2019/ENU/?guid=Maya_ReleaseNotes_2019_3_release_notes_html

That contains a change that we hope fixes this Unfold3D error but you need to set an environment variable in order to try out the fix.  Hopefully anyone that has access to 2019.3 can give it a shot and report back if it fixes things for them.

We are not ignoring other releases of Maya that also have this problem, but I have no announcements for anything else just yet.

Hello,

What is an environment variable?

Finally, it's working, guys on my Ryzen 3900X

You have to go to your pref directory, for example C:\Users\<yourname>\Documents\maya\2019 and in Maya.env file add: MAYA_USE_ALTERNATE_UNFOLD_SHIM = 1

Restart and enjoy)

Of course it doesn't work, because this fix was made only for Maya 2019 Update 3.

BUT there is a chance it will work if Maya 2018 is using Unfold3D as standalone application i.e. as exe.

(I can't verify it, because I don't have 2018 installed)

Go to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2018\bin and if you can find file UnfoldShim.exe you can use THIS FIX

Thank you!

That worked! Now I hope it will come to Maya 2020 soon so I do not have to juggle between versions just to UV edit.

The problem is still here on Maya 2020

I have an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Processor and a NVidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphic card.

This is really annoying !!

FOR RYZEN USERS

I found this in a forum, it works for Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7, Ryzen 9, and Ryzen Threadripper!

"I took a closer look and it looks like it is using some kind of 2017 version of Unfold (assuming by the name of the new file that appeared in bin folder of Update 3)

There are two new files in Update 3 for Maya 2019:

unfold3dlib.dll - 99.8MB - sha1 a9799263f360ed3c860980c986aefd5031fe0591

UnfoldShim2017.exe - 122kB - sha1 38a508efe9df78ab8b8f4bfc54edac7628bdc48c

So there is a way how to run Unfold3D in Maya 2020.1 now (if you are running on Ryzen or Threadripper):

1.  download and extract unfold.rar

2. copy and replace files in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2020\bin

(UnfoldShim2017.exe is already renamed to UnfoldShim.exe, so you just need to replace the file, consider backup the original)

Also I did some quick test with unfolding teddy bear model, most UVs were unfolded with just slightly difference and one UV shell wasn't unfolded properly.

Personally I would be happier with 1:1 result but it is still better than nothing or Legacy mode."
