Windows explorer crashes After Installation Inventor 2026

Anybody familiar with the situation that windows explorer crashes opening the D partition on windows 11?

Solved by step by step removing file from the drive selves, with another portable file explorer (total Commander).

One of the files was corrupted.

After remove everything works again.

To may findings it could be Inventor related. When I have Inventor 2026 open the D drive partition crashes again.

Is there maybe a corruption created on D by inventor?

I have all my data on this D drive including the Inventor projects and file/settings like CC and design data.

I have tested and indeed files that I create with Inventor 2026 make the folder in corrupted and Explorer Crashes.

After remove the files with Total Commander it is good again.

Please let me know if and what to do or what your team can do.

I cannot even share the files because when selected explorer crashes.....

I have found that indeed Inventor is the issue.

seems that it has to do with the prompt shown when hover the inventor files in Inventor.

this was before the trick here below not shown and crashed Win Explorer.

I hope that I have it solved now with the default app settings which was for me on Inventor 2023 and not on the later installed 2025 or 2026 edition.

Maybe there lays the issue with more then one version installed of Inventor.

Still I am not able to change dwg extension to Inventor 2025 or 2026. therefor I have now chosen dwg launcher.

Hope that we are coming closer?

You are not alone. After installing Inventor 2026, my system started freezing and crashing. When I hover over the icon, the prompts appear,

but clicking it causes the computer to freeze. So I am not sure, the proms are the problem. Shortly after, Windows Explorer crashes.

I took picture with phone.

Everything works fine when I uninstall Inventor 2026 and revert to 2025. Windows and drivers are fully updated.

Update: Even with Inventor 2026 instaled, when the default app is Inventor 2025, Windows Explorer wokrs without isue.

I foud out, that I do not have the isue with I.2026, when the preview is switched off. With Inventor 2025 works the preview ok.

For me also after unisntall of Inventor 2026 the system Win Explorer keeps crashing. I have the dwg file associated with Autocad dwg launcher, not to Inventor 2025 or 2026. 

Hope that Autodesk comes soon and quick with a update for this!

Hi Arthur,

We haven't heard of this before other than the forum topics you've referenced. Do you have an explorer.exe.12345.dmp files in 

%localappdata%/CrashDumps folder that you can share for further investigation? (The numbers will be random).
