low on disk space

I have a problem and I hope someone can help me with it. I have a relatively new laptop [less than one year old] and I only use it for inventor and AutoCAD. other than that I have the ms office suit.  C:/ 120Gb and D:/ 1Tb. and my C has only 17Gb left. I uninstalled Invnetor2019 to install 2020 and I still don't have the space.

my question is how can I go about freeing us my hard drive space. its like its portioned and I don't have access to the full 120Gb. something is wrong. what can I do?

can any of you look at it remotely to see what the situation is?

I also checked in my C;/programs and say old versions on inventor that I never installed, 2017 and 2018 taking up +10Gb each and also revit was there. I have never installed revit. in total I saw +30Gb in Autodesk programs that I cant account for.

is this normal or does something sound fishy. I need the space because now I cant update to 2020.

help needed asap.

The unknown installed Autodesk programs are probably part of whichever collection you have. If IT set up the laptop for you, they'll probably have installed everything that was in the box.

A recent Windows (10) updategrade will likely have eaten the space.

Check C: for a Windows.Old folder and if you're certain Windows 10 is functioning normally post-upgrade then it's usually safe to remove it.*

Also, I recommend installing WinDirStat to find out what has eaten the space. You say you only have Inventor, AutoCAD and the Office suite installed so in theory there should be plenty of storage space remaining. @Neil_Cross did some testing of installing/uninstalling Autodesk products on an otherwise fresh system a while back and IIRC, even using the provided "uninstall tool" there was ~2GB of leftovers after removing products like Inventor so WinDirStat will help narrow down if this has happened in your case.

If you look in C:\Autodesk there may still be the files from the initial install of the 2019 products.

*Notice I didn't say delete; you can move it to the other drive you have instead.

Yes I noticed old files in c:/ of Revit and inventor 2018 and 2017 that I
never had installed. 6 & 8Gbs each. I deleted them among others and gained
back 40Gb. I will delete the old Windows plus install what you recommended
to check. Will check first before I delete.

Also since I installed 2020, and reopened my old .iam files, I'm constantly
prompted to search for the location of fasteners in my assemblies. And
inventor doesn't seem to remember the location and everyone I open the .iam
I have to go through the long process of identifying the file location of
each fastener.

How can I remedy this so it remembers their locations and I'm never
prompted again?

Thanks for your help. All of those you gave advice.

It sounds like you haven't set up the Inventor project file correctly. It's common practice to have one "area" where files/projects are stored and your fasteners would form part of that structure.

If you've never had any Inventor training, there's no time like the present.

lol np. no I haven't had training. just self taught and watched videos
online. what ive done is change the contentcentrelibrary default path to
the 2019 folder location instead of 2020. it seems during the install no
2020 libraries were installed. I was never asked during the install process
so I assumed all would have been well and saved as they should. since I
made the change I'm no longer prompted and my files are loading as before.

thanks again

That change will work for your older assemblies but you'll want to install the Content to add new fasteners in any new work.

This guide explains how to add them: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcartic...

It is targeted at the 201# version(s) but still applies.
