Create drawing list from top level assembly

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hi,

I would like to create a drawing list from a top level assembly in Excel.

The drawing list must contain the following:
- Part number
- Description
- Total quantity of the parts / sub assemblies / assemblies

I hope someone can help me to solve this problem. It would save me a lot of time because I have to make the drawing list now by hand. I need to count all by hand an it is just waiting for mistakes.

Thanks a lot.

Jeffrey

Hi

You can look at the BOM for this from the Assembly. go to:

Manage / Bill of Materials

bom0.jpg

select the columns you want to see

bom1.jpg

pick 'Parts only' in the dropdrown list

bom2.jpg

export to excel

bom3.jpg

Cheers

Hi,

That is not what I want.. but thanks for your help!
I just need a list with all existing part numbers within a top assembly (only from the parts / assemblies where the bom structure is normal!).
In that list I want to see the total quantity of parts / sub assemblies etc.

Inventor is not giving this information in the parts only or structured bom view.

I hope that my question is a clearer now.

Then im not sure what you want?

If you want a list from the top level assembly, you can get it from the BOM. If you only want to focus on the parts / assemblies that have a normal structure, filter them out in excel and delete them. All of the columns that want are there

Please find some examples below.

Example of what a structured bom inventor can look like:

Part number Description QTY BOM Structure
10000 Assembly 2 Normal
     10001 Sub ass. 1 Normal
           10003 Part 1 8 Normal
           10004 Part 2 2 Normal
10016 Festo cylinder 3 Purchased

Example of what I want to achieve:

Part number Description QTY
10000 Assembly 2
10001 Sub ass. 2
10003 Part 1 16
10004 Part 2 4

This is not the same as the structured or parts only bom in Inventor.

Jeffrey

Use structured all levels in the BOM.

Other possible solution:
Are you using Vault?

This IS achievable using the BOM from a top level assembly on a drawing sheet with a Part List.

This is how i did it:

  • Added base view of top level assembly
  • created a partslist style with Part Number, Description & Base Qty as the Columns
  • clicked 'Filter' above the column display box
  • selected 'Purchased Items' in the dropdown box
  • Selected 'No Purchased Items' from the radio selection
  • saved and closed the styles editor
  • added partlist with settings BOM View = Structured (Legacy)
  • Selected the baseview and placed the partlist.
  • changed the partlist style to the one i have just created
  • double clicked the partlist to edit
  • expanded all of the collapsed rows
  • clicked ok
  • clicked ok
  • right click the partlist and select Export

That will give you exactly what you have shown above from the BOM

Hi,

Sorry for the late response.

This still does not make the list that I am looking for.

I Solved this now by making an excel sheet with some VBA in it.

Select any folder in vault.

  • Goto>> File >> Plot.
  • Select >> Add >> Add Related File sheets
  • Select >> The Top Level Drawing in the browser
  • Vault start Calculating processing the related drawings...
  • The list is shown now.
  • Goto >> File (in the active browser)
  • Select export
  • now you have your list...

Yes this is also possible without vault, but you need to have all files available on your machine.

The issue is much more easier with the vault.
