Guess / suggest parameters when dimensioning / constraining.

I would love it if inventor guesses / suggests (user defined) parameters. For instance, if you add a dimension and type "Th" inventor gives the option for "Thickness" in the sheet metal environment.

Or when 2 user defined parameters are called "Distance_from_floor"  and  "Distance_from_wall" typing "Dis" would show a dropdown menu with these parameters. Then you can cycle through the menu with TAB.

As you start typing a parameter name, it would increase efficiency greatly if Inventor could autofill the parameter names in a manner similar to the way Excel does or the way Visual Studio autofills function names.

When you have loads of parameters, it can be difficult to find a parameter from the list of parameters in the pull-down menu in the 'edit dimension' dialog box.  I think it would be more efficient if the the list pops up as soon as you type any letter and the list whittles down as you enter more characters.

All,

When I work in Inventor I often set up a good list of parameters and even create template files with parameters pre-built into them.  Then I use them all over the place to create different features, or build little equations to create features.  Currently, I have to type out the entire name in the dialog box (say for the extrusion length) or click on the arrow to list the parameters.  I would like to see an option to have Inventor Auto Complete the parameter name for me (possibly using the Space Bar to jump out of Auto Complete), similar to what can be done with the AutoCAD Command Line.  Maybe a silly idea, but could save some time searching for named parameters.  Let me know what you think and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

Pete

I think it might be a good idea to improve the user experience add an auto complete function parameters as AutoCAD have when you type a command.
This feature can be great suggesting the custom parameter to avoid errors when writing parameters.

Cheers.

This is a duplicate of several identical requests. I suggest voting for this one, which is the oldest and has a good mock-up screenshot: Parameter suggestion dropdown or side menu

This is a duplicate of the following idea: Parameter suggestion dropdown or side menu. This one (the one I've linked to) is older and has a good mock-up screenshot. Please cast kudos for it as well.

I voted for the one that you suggested.  I try to search for these ideas before I post, but must not have gotten the keywords right.

Has this been sorted? I have been thinking about this option for years and I don't understand why there is no more interest on it.

To my knowledge, no.

@Discussion_Admin, could the ideas I listed above be merged into this one?

It would also be great if the following image from @Anonymous could be added to the body of the idea:

I'd like to see this addressed. I still don't have this option in 2021.

Like predictive text for existing parameters. I like it!

Hi,

my idea is to have possibility to auto fill parameter name when after input of first characters in dimmension dialog box if it is unique:

Here inventor should auto fill proposal for parameter wall_thickess maybe little bit greyed and auto apply if tab or whatevere key is pressed.

Maybe it could be switch on/off using user options?

Dear Autodesk,

If you start to do something with that you could give little bit more improvements, first of all you could give dimmension input box apperence of for example ilogic, im talking about colours for operators, functions, but also some hint like below:

marcin_otrba_4-1663348888421.png

and give me chance to expand it vericaly as well, with wrapping text and all it would look better in my opinion:

all companies i used and still work with use parametric models with mass of parameters, expressions and dependencies, it is werry irritation to work with such hilariuos input box.

next give me chance to make my favorite parameters  with possibility to manipulate this list, or show all user parameters in document, to be possible to acces it without clicking on list parameters listbox item here:

inventor in stadard does not give nothinng exept xml import/export method - wchich is in my opinion some relict of past, you could give some more possibilities here as well, i already made this in coule of rules, scripts, and addins, using  place component event but, i check if all user parameters from the placed component are present in assembly if not then user for example is prompted with question - do you want to copy parameters from component ? it can be like button on parameters tab - copy parameters from component, and next one copy parameters from file chosen in open component window autodesk native file or this exported xml. also flush to file chosen from open window would be good idea, simmilar to vaults assign parameters:

Please if implementing this idea, we may need options for what shows in the dropdown. Some people may want to see the value to confirm that it's the right parameter, and some people may want to see the comment field for a description if there are similarly named parameters. And these people may not agree with one another so better to implement a fully functional feature at the start! Maybe an option for showing the comment and value only for the currently highlighted row for those that don't like things taking up a lot of space on their screen.
