It seems to me, the technologies used for the overlay tools would be ideal for several other functions in InfraWorks. For instance, image a style library with several types of crosswalks, lane markings, hash lines, bike lane icons, etc., which the user could quickly overlay as needed. I would envision this would also be great for creating street name overlays, highway number signs, annotation text and other elements to be overlaid onto various components in an InfraWorks model.
Libraries of basic elements could be shipped with the application, such as Interstate signs, highway signs and the like, as well as basic crosswalks and other road markings. Users could, as is the case with the other styles, create their own libraries. To augment these Overlay Styles, I would suggest an additional tool which would allow the user to create their own content, similar to what you get with the Storyboard tool or Watermark tool, but with more options. This way, users could import custom graphics, such as logos and combine with text as needed. Image a street sign tool, with a selection of basic sign styles and the user can type a street name over the blank area, which would expand to accommodate the type. You could use this functionality for highway signs, with support for country kits, i.e, US, UK, AU, etc. Similarly, this functionality would be excellent for creating annotation overlays.
