fit point spline issues

I want to trace the image, and when I start adding points, the lines all want to curve, like you see on the left side of the "V", and I get the red and green axis how do I turn that off, and make it follow where I put the points instead. seems something has changed since the latest update I got a couple days ago.  I did a different one a while ago and could trace the letters just fine, and have just started this new project and have run into this problem. I went back and started a new project with the old image I used for the 1st project and it now does the same thing. Once in a while after I set all the points I would have to adjust a few, but the lines always followed as I had put them down.

thank you for the help

Hi Folks,

A very creative Inventor user recently shares a tip about converting any traceable image to a font. Then insert the text in such font accordingly. It eliminates the need to trace. It should apply to Fusion too. Please take a look.

Many thanks!

Hi,

For sharp edges, I would end the first spline and start a new spline at its endpoint.

didnt work, when did they add the part showing by the E with the little check mark? and why do all the lines want to be curved, even if I draw a straight line and at each corner, I put a point, and the next point wants to be curved? It used to do that once in a while but if I added a point closer to the one before it would quit making them curved. I will create the project file and add it on wednesday

When you ticked - 3d sketch.

You have part of the 3d sketch cursor showing.

Maybe the project file will help show the problem better, so I attached it. dont know what changed but it worked so well a week ago, I did one for my trailer hitch cover with the ranger logo, and it was great. I can attach that file if need be, it is in my post from last week

thank you, I thought i was getting better at using fusion, but I guess not yet:)

my version is :

Not what I would do.

At the most would be 3 sketches, text, then red and silver pointed bodies.

Sketch the text with lines and tangent arcs, (not Spline) sketch the pointed parts with lines.

Do not tick the 3d sketch option.

thanks for the replies, I think I should have posted this in support, as I dont really need help tracing the letters, I just need the the lines to follow where I put the points, and not curve, and try to snap to some imaginary grid.

..... as I don’t really need help tracing the letters.  ....

Then I think you are misunderstanding something.

We don’t know your level of experience, most answers are written expecting posters to have a basic knowledge level.  So going back a level or two, (not criticism)

You have traced all your articles, with Spline.  The result is normal, and you have way too many points in the outline.  You don’t have to do each letter in a separate sketch.

My demo is many lines, and no Splines (no curves).

Try again with the Line Tool.  When you get a handle on that tool, you can draw straight lines.

Then with click and hold, you can drag tangent curves, from the last end point.

I have seen the imaginary grid too, yes annoying because it is intermittent on certain levels of zoom,  (I never use sketch grid, I think it is due to the Canvass being present)

Hold Control whilst going to the next end point position you want, release Control when you get there and left click to place the endpoint, repeat.

You will see hidden modelling in the timeline, I got stumped with the long bar.  How high is the centre point of the bevel?  The graphic does not give me enough clues for the intersecting area with my red bars.

Hi,

In my opinion, this is not a question for the support area!

thank you all for the help,

I was given a solution to try in the support area, and it will work for my project. I am just at the basic level, so trying my best to learn as much as I can as I go along.

I dont know the height of the center point bevel points,  the red part is supposed to seem like the x in vexus, it a boat logo brand. I missed the part where you asked me questions, I will read more carefully after this. I try to figure most things out on my own with out bothering you here with things, that seem to be major issues for me are probably just normal stuff to the users that are really good at fusion 360. I have managed to make a few projects so far, I made covers for the stake pockets on the pickup, and they actually fit and work. So I really do appreciate the help, I just feel I dont explain things very well and get frustrated.

thank you for trying to help me.

All good, the video has used (2 point) Splines for the corners, fair enough.

With all those bevels, I was getting ahead of you and making my own badge so that new questions can follow.  In the end others could come along and see it as a tutorial in steps.

Stick to one thread (this one) as the questions come up.

Later today I will send you my red bars, and see if you can work out how they were made from just my demo sketch.

I don’t think the long bar is anywhere near the same height as the rest, that’s why I got stumped.  You got any other pic for it?

ok I will continue here only. I will be interested to see what you have for ideas, I dont have any other pics,  and I was just going to make them flat, as I had no idea how to make them beveled and flat will be fine what it is for, a simple trailer hitch cover. some days this program is so difficult and sometime I get it right away and wonder what I did wrong for it to work

I been there, (gets better with experience), and now like to help out, I might save some time....

This is no beginner project.  The more I step through, the more I see.

bdge3DB.PNG

bdge4DB.PNG

Bevel at 2.5mm high is no trouble, but to cut the text out of it, makes you think.

The point body will end up cut into five separate bodies before being finished up.  Didn't take long to realise that the base sketch has to have all the text, so that the extrudes work correctly.

That said, I did the S with Splines with least amount of points and then constrain adjust the handles.  That takes a lot of patience to bring the shape same as the canvass.

So the canvass is no longer fully coloured, I reduce the opacity to see that canvass under the sketch, (Much easier Gunther).   Better if the canvass was centred on the Origin to help the mirrors.

Step along the timeline, happy to explain the "why" questions.

Might help....

maybe for me it would be better to tackle one of the other logos I found they look a little easier, I looked at the timeline, there is lofting, and planes, both of which I have not even attempted. The stuff looks great that you have there, but I can see it took lots of time. Unless I choose a different logo, this will take me quite some time, and many new things to learn. It looks amazing I must say. Then after all the design work is done, will it print in my 3d printer, is another challenge I will have to tackle.

Nah that one is going back to the old thread, how to join them up.

when I say step up the time line, start at the beginning of file, move one step, then work out what happened, if you Edit the Feature, (Right Click on the timeline icon, Cancel to go back.) you will see what was used to make that step.

All I can say is the end result is one body to print, easier than the new Canvass.

Stick with it, I will send a finished one for reference, after you start to understand the power of Fusion, using little steps towards the end game.

Most time taken was the Splines in the S, rest doesn’t take long.  Just more of the same.
