fit point spline issues

I want to trace the image, and when I start adding points, the lines all want to curve, like you see on the left side of the "V", and I get the red and green axis how do I turn that off, and make it follow where I put the points instead. seems something has changed since the latest update I got a couple days ago.  I did a different one a while ago and could trace the letters just fine, and have just started this new project and have run into this problem. I went back and started a new project with the old image I used for the 1st project and it now does the same thing. Once in a while after I set all the points I would have to adjust a few, but the lines always followed as I had put them down.

thank you for the help

Actually, I don't think cutting the point body is needed, not exactly the same as the canvass, but letting that body run under the text bodies looks a better badge than their canvass.  Certainly, 1st pic is a stronger print.

The X can be done by a simple extrude with a taper plus a chamfer and draft of the chamfer.  The V and text can be done with a surface loft.

p.s. Text is just straight lines, arcs, and control point splines.

This all looks great, and is way way over my head for my skill level. I will have to look into lofting, different planes, draft chamfer, extrude with a taper. None of which I have ever tried or done, so I will start to look for tutorials for those things and see if I can make them happen on my project. Everything shown looks so good, so much better than what I had planned.

I plan on having some questions on friday, about different items in the timelines

The second pic needs the last extrude and then the Combine feature.

1st pic does not use these two features.

Good Morning,

1, what is loft8 and why is it a different color in the timeline

2, what is boundary fill

3, what kind of plane was used

4, Is extrude3 the one that needs to be finished

5, is combine1 also the one to be finished.

This will be added to an oval that is 5mm thick with a 3mm shell, so that it fits the premade oval on the hitch covers I use for the backing plates.  I will be trying to add that part myself, and then combing it all before I get it ready to print.

If you would not mind answering some of the questions would be great, the work you have done is amazing to me. I still am working on the videos about loft, but I will keep working thru them. I did add the oval backer(extruded and join), and want to add a 3mm rim(shell) but all I get is an error. I tried it a as a new body, and could get the rim, but then the logo is floating in space, and I could not combine them.

thank you! you have done all the work for me, now I just need to figure out all the steps it took. I am very grateful for all you have done.

I can’t get to Fusion files, whilst travelling, but still here with IPad.

Happy to answer from memory, the Questions make sense,

4 and 5.  To have the badge Exactly as the Canvass, those features were made on the end of the Timeline, so just move to the end of Timeline, and they are done.

1, 2, and 3.  For the letter E, Fusion would not make that letter using the same workflow, for all the other lettering.  I figure I should report a bug, because the mapping handles go apes... and I didn’t successfully get a solid Loft, (knowing most of the Loft techniques and errors).

I noticed that @etfrench and I resorted to a Surface Loft.  So same input, a Surface Loft was immediate.

That means it was hollow around the initial extrude.  Boundary fill, filled the void.  The Origin Plane, Surface Loft and Extrude features creates the solid Loft that should have been a no brainer.

Adding your disk, step back and don’t use my Combine.

Sketch and Extrude the disk backwards, show all bodies, - important - and use Join.

Delete the Combine off the time line, because the disk Extrude replaces this feature.

The X needs a chamfer here and also on the bottom section. Once the chamfer is created, use draft to match the canvas.

I added the chamfer, and did not figure out the next part about using draft to match the canvas, but I hope to have more time this week to look at it more.

I will continue with this during the week, but you have done all the work, and I thank you. I have found videos on lofting, and I got from your reply and looking at the design, it is an offset plane, after I turned on the visibility I could see the plane. I have much to learn yet, and will not take on such a big project for the next one, But if I need help, I have learned everyone here is great, and very willing to help.

Thank you

Nope I just provided a guide to a workflow, that is a little advanced to get you thinking.

I think there was only one construction Plane, that was needed for the early Solid body mirror.  Technically, I think it was a Plane at Angle, from the sketch centre line, didn’t trust the Canvass was orthographic.

If I was making it from scratch, that’s where the File Origin would be and I would not need the Construction Plane, just use the Origin Plane in the mirror.

I didnt get the backing plate exactly as I would have liked it to be, but I wanted to try to print it today, so it is currently printing, I have about 2 hrs longer before it is done, but it is looking pretty good. I will send a pic to you when its done.
