trouble with designing a coil for sheetmetal

hi team, i am trying to model a tapered spiral that gets thinner in section as it decreases in angle, i have not been able to do that so it is the same size all the way up, then i want to be able to create sheetmetal planes on it so as i can flatten them out and actually cut them out in my workshop ? does anyone know how to add sheet metal flanges to coiling and tapered surfaces ?? i have attached my model. cheers legends

Hi @workshopPEGF ,

Thanks for posting to the Fusion 360 Forum.

I did check your model, in this case, you can create your tapper coil as below.

  1. Create a 3D coil with a tapper (Square section).
  2. Create a new Sketch and Extract a 3D curve from the coil edge.
  3. Create a plane along the curve.
  4. Make rectangles on each plane.
  5. Make a loft shape from the profile and coil sketch.

Please try and let us know if this helps.

thank you for your model mate, interesting way of going about it. would it be possible to then create sheetmetal on the lofted planes and segment it so as it can actually be flat patterned and brought to life in a workshop ? the issue i have with creating sheetmetal on a curved surface is that it wont compute it ? great idea with using lofted sketches though. i had not thought of that.

@Pradipio

That doesn't seem to answer the question?
