2D divide a flat surface for coloring purpose

Hi,

I'm finding no solution to a simple problem. I'm modelling a tablet and I would like to divide the top surface in order to colour the screen. I've designed a rectangle on a sketch for the delimitation of the screen but can't manage to apply it on the surface. I do not want to extrude as it should remain flat.

Any help?

Use Split Faces to divide the face, then use Appearance with the "Faces" filter set to color just one face:

Hello,

another solution could be to place a decal on the surface:
