In the Revit world - Truth is really stranger than fiction.....

I’ve noticed that I always learn something new when I’m helping someone. That happened again today - I learned something new!

As always, this bit of information fell into my lap as I was answering a question about this parameter that you may (or may not - in all my years with Revit I NEVER noticed this!) have seen while editing Properties of a Dimension Style -

The question that I was asked was - why is the Opening Height NOT shown when dimensioning a wall opening?

That made me read - and it was my friend Kimtaurus that showed me the light about this 'quirk' in Revit dimension styles. From what I read

i learned that this will report the height of any family instances that sport a built-in Height parameter (doors, windows, casework - you name it) below the dimension line. Seeing is believing - take a look at the result -

I really and truly don't buy into the utility of this feature - some clarity on this, anyone? Has anyone reported door or window heights on a building plan?

Also, the name is downright confusing, as was evinced by the utter confusion shown by the hapless person who expected the resulting dimensions to report the height of a wall opening. Maybe something a little clearer?

(BTW - I tested this feature in Revit 2021 and 2022. Expect more information once I get to a machine that runs Revit 2023)
