With a bold leap into the unknown, my first foray into hair creation was born after an intense week of immersing myself in the wonders of Ornatrix. In just three hours, driven by curiosity and playful experimentation, I created something I couldn't believe was mine. Now, I should mention that I had a treasure trove of experience from 2009 to 2016, and perhaps this vast sea of knowledge gave me an uncanny knack for absorbing new information like a sponge.
Ornatrix itself was a breeze to use; its simplicity was a breath of fresh air. Tutorials were scarce at the time, but that didn't stop me. I armed myself with the documentation and occasionally contacted the creators when the tides of confusion swept in.
And then the incredible happened! My first creation was catapulted into the limelight, earning accolades in the esteemed 3D Artist magazine in England.
It placed bravely among the top three artworks of the month, taking the silver award. The cherry on top? Disney took notice, and my inbox lit up with an enticing commission. My 3D Artist profile, which started out with a modest 10,000 views, skyrocketed to nearly 700,000 views in just over a week!
Although the site eventually merged with CreativeBloq, I had the presence of mind to capture this crowning moment in a screenshot that now holds a place of honor among my accomplishments.
To be fair, my creation had some rough edges and was not ready for animation. But the sheer fact that it was conjured up in just three hours, after a week of learning, is nothing short of amazing.
I didn't rise to the rank of Senior Groom Artist overnight. My early days were a whirlwind of activity as I eagerly made my presence known in groups, forums, and social platforms even before ArtStation was a thing. Sure, there were murmurs and a chorus of "You're everywhere!" from my peers, but I didn't let that dampen my spark. I was relentless, relentlessly honing my skills and unapologetically showing them off to the world. And it was with this particular piece that my incredible journey took flight.
