Advance Steel custom commands-share your ideas

Hello,

It will be nice to learn more about custom commands / combination of Autocad and Advance Steel commands improving productivity.

To colleagues willing to share-Thank you.

Here is a tiny example:

"Hide parts with identical numbers"-used when parts are detailed using drawings styles.

^C^C_AstM5equalpartsMarkSame \;AstM4CommSelectMarkedObjects ;_AstM4SwitchReprMode off

And another one:

"Hide Similar Advance Steel Objects":

^C^C_SelectSimilar \;_AstM4SwitchReprMode off

@acbsdesign  Wishing you the best in this new chapter!

It is sad that AD is forzing top-notch AS's users to look for the competition of AS. Your suggestions and input to improve AS is very valuable.

I hope to find a more affordable alternative than Tekla. I will wait for others users input.

@fcorte

Thank you for your wishes.

I will be still using AS on a daily basis, it is my preferred software for everything complex, drawings' quality is unmatched, for those caring about quality, it does make a difference.

Not closing the door 🙂.

Hi @acbsdesign,

I am glad that you successfully fought your way through the training for Tekla Structures. I have a similar experience, it's been a few years, it was like from another universe. Many months ago, not only based on market developments, we decided to develop our own real 3D CAD for our industry. As it uses direct input from our own static program, it is the most perfect solution for us. We will still be using Advance Steel in the background before we fully transition to our system. I wish everyone who is switching to another CAD a happy choice and much success. As the classic says, change is the only constant in the universe. Stay strong and healthy...

@vuongbui.nuce

It was pinned, but it was said by the moderator it is not structured or something similar.

Whatever, it helped us over the past few years to improve the workflow, this is most important.

I would like to thank everyone again for all ideas and suggestions.

This is what made this place great-bringing users together.

It is sad to see the development of Advance Steel abandoned in 2023 just because Revit is all they want.

(my opinion only)

I think they were posted in this thread.

Will look further, but it was last year.

@Sebastian_Eiche

Thank you.

Not sure what everyone is up to now, such an uncertainty with Autodesk and Advance. I no longer want to be there.

Learned Tekla, most of it, some of it, enough of it, enough to be competitive, they say, no one can learn everything.

And it may be true because I am not a programmer.

And we don't have to be.

What will the programmers do otherwise?

Recorded macros, many of them.

Tekla doesn't have some of out of box commands we have in Advance-select objects connected in the field, for example, ...why do I need this. And why do I need that?

"Because I never needed it"

See? There are some subjects everywhere. :)))

Thank you for the help.

Priceless.

I have another lisp routine I've created out of necessity.

Have you ever started cutting drawings and realize some objects are showing that shouldn't because you didn't set the model role? Does it take you a minute to scroll through the list to find the right one?

If you've ever experienced any part of this scenario then this lisp might be useful to you!

It's easy to use! Activate the command "SETROLE" then enter the model role then select all the objects that apply. If you're not sure what the internal role name is (the one stored in MT) then enter "?" and it will open the attached excel spreadsheet that list all the roles.

Make sure to put the spreadsheet in a support folder you have pathed.

Hello@Jonathan3891

I have seen your Lisp for setting the model role.

I'm looking for a command to set the checkboxes from the user Attributes.

Do you have an Idea, if that checkboxes can be changed with lisp?

Hi @MetallPlanMerkinger,

first you need the names of the checkboxes (similar to the DCL menu) ... we have been searching for a long time and in vain

Will all these lisps and custom commands work in Revit_ Advance Steel ?

LISP is not compatible with Revit.

.NET or C# is the language used.
