Powernurbs is a plugin by Integrityware that allows users to model with solid/surface NURBS inside of 3DS Max. (These are not the NURBS tools that are already in 3DS.) In a nutshell, for about 15 (yikes!) years now I use Powernurbs as my "Rhino" inside 3DS Max, giving an extremely well balanced way to do industrial design concepts with the proper exports (STP, IGS, SLDPRT etc.) while not directly moving away from a very free way of designing and world building. (Alias and Fusion are perhaps too parametric for this sort of "in between" application.) Because of good conversion to mesh and proper mesh control, entertainment industry standards can also be served. This is great bandwidth coming out of 1 application. I modeled some high profile stuff with it over the years, including ships for Star Trek as well as the IXS Enterprise (NASA's "warpship") some yachts and some household products. Right now, when you import a STP file into max, it will be read as a body object. As far as I know, that tech is already 100% based on Powernurbs/Integrityware code. (Just like Proboolean tools are) In short, it would be a small step for Autodesk to integrate these tools directly and a huge step for 3DS Max if it comes to versatility. 🙂 Autodesk would have a direct competitor for Plasticity and, up to a level, Rhino inside Max. I'm reasonable sure Integrityware would be open to this as well. Thank you for taking this into consideration! Image for attention. 🙂 (3DS Max, Powernurbs, Chaos Vantage, PS) Example of the additional tools within max.
