Solved: multiple shapes Loft Issue - Page 4

Hi. After my 3D max has updated in this year, my multiple shape loft stuff was very ugly do it ( screenshot i do it the shapes with lines and lofted. ). now i can't get the second shape to use in the same loft. is there a new procedure of steps to get the second or more shapes after the first shape loft? i want to loft an egg shape ( standard one from SPLINES ),than the ellipse shape than again the egg .... and so one. thank you.

Hello @Anonymous,

I don't have anything on my machine that you don't have. I follow a pretty rigid process but that's about it. I have recorded a video here to show my process from start to finish. I would abandon your scene and start a new one, it was useful to learn but let's try with a blank slate. In the video below I didn't subdivide. Please check it out and thanks!

If you have problems, please record a Screencast of your workflow. I have shared all the knowledge I have about the loft tool now, so any new info would have to come from observing your workflow. Thanks!

Hi Alfred.

I find it something atrange in my struggle with this program.

In the version 2017 from which i deleted before the NVIDIA file and the last update , but after this not started the program , than i copy the NVIDIA file from 2018 version and is this result ,after 11 OK is starting. In this way in some cases i CAN do the LOFT like you show it me in the screencast otherwise not at all.

In 2018 version i can't do it at all. Here is a screecast with 2018 : http://autode.sk/2xmnLKI . Maybe can be ueful for something . In both versions i try it more timesopening totally NEW SCENE and NEW PROGRAM WINDOW.

Question is : is still just to me occuring or to other people too? Is this from a conflict between 3D MAX files and windows 10 on my laptop?

Can you put for me please the screencast with the loft here,so i can download it.

Hello @Anonymous,

For the NVIDIA issues we should start a new thread, but generally you cannot copy files from 2018 and use them in 2017. You'll need to get the latest installers from NVIDIA for 2018. Are you using 2018 or 2017 now? Thanks for the info.

The only difference I can see between your movie and mine is that I create the path in the front or left view and the sections in the top view. You are creating the path in the top view. Can you try to create it in one of the other views? I've tried to repro but I cannot. When you type in a value for the distance, it doesn't look like you are hitting Enter, can you please also do that for me? Thanks!

Hi Alfred.

I'm using the 2017 ( with the NVIDIA from 2018 version i mplemented on it ) and the 2018 version too, but still can't do the right DISTANCE even i doing in other wiev and pressing ENTER .Something is in conflict on my pc windows 10 and 3d max both versions.

I do it this file in 2017 version , try it please on your pc and see if are doing another loft in the same file is corect with the DISTANCE or not. If it is , then a corrupt file is in BIG conflict on my pc with windows 10.question will be which one ?

Have an idea how to install 3d max on ubuntu 16.04 ? on the web is nothing to find. I want to try the 3d max thru that program too, if is doing the same problems to me or not.

Hello @Anonymous,

It wasn't working for me until I deleted your path and made a new one. Something must be happening to your path shape before you do the loft. I just use snapping and create it the size I need and it's working for me as shown in my video. I attached a new file. Delete the loft but leave the path and try again on that, does it work?

With your LOFT file i reproduced again the loft and IS PERFECT. So from now i must to ask you send me new files from your pc all the time, are HEALTHIERmy are sick .

. this message appeared when i try it to open your file.

Hi Alfred.

The windows updated and even so the 2018 version is still not good

The 2017 instead at the first try is working the distance again. I opened new ones ( 2 ) after this one and not worked again with the 2017 vesion.

from this kind of errror messages are this :

Hello @Anonymous,

The MassFX message is normal when opening a Max file made in a different version of 3ds Max. You can ignore it.

I think you need to totally reinstall both versions. You cannot copy 2018 files to 2017 or vice versa, so I'm worried that your installation can't be fixed by normal means. If you need the 2018 version of mental ray, you can get it from NVIDIA's website.

I can't explain why you are having the issues you are having. Maybe your Windows installation has gone bad. Have you tried making a new user in Windows? If not, please try that for me. Thanks!

Hi Alfred.

I have no ideas what else to do forward now:

-- i installed from scratch the windows 10 again

-- downloaded the 2018 version

-- updates all what i find it there for this version

and is doing the same . I give 20 he is doing 45 .

In the ENU file is a little better . Is there no other file which i must to renew it , like the ENU one?

Is no version of 3d max for Ubuntu?

What other experiment to do forward? What to combine with what?

I don't try it the NVIDIA file to do something with it. If yes , where is the webside and what to do there?

Try to do a Loft in each of the files to see if on your machine is working or not, or is the same like last time.

The NVIDIA drivers on the web ( what i find it ) is for XP,WIN7 ,VISTA 2011 release. ( http://www.nvidia.com/object/maxtreme_workstation.html ) .

The problem seems to be with your handles. Please try the following:

1) Open NEW LOFT TEST WITH NEW WIN 10.max

2) Select the path

3) Go into vertex mode

4) Select all verts

5) Right click and set tangents to 'Corner'. Then, it all pops into place. Those handles seem to be the thing that is killing the operation.
