Hello @Anonymous,

All you should need to do is convert the Egg to an Editable Spline and delete the inner element.  Does that make sense?  Just remove the inner part altogether.

The number of points shouldn't stop this from working, image/proof below.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks!

Hi Alfred.

Screenshot (69).png  Another big issue for me again is i need this right one loft to be 105 mm in high. But after i do the loft introducing the distances is still there on the top a Plus -- 4 equal + 1 little.

Screenshot (70).pngScreenshot (71).png here in both is the same 105mm , after i Scaled and is the same error at Loft.

What i'm doing wrong? An idea of a good work flow to not appear such a plus there ?

Thank you.

Hi Alfred.

Another issue :Screenshot (72).png here in the left side ( pink color ) is the Loft do it with the Ellipse and Egg make it from Shapes-->Spline . I do it how you show it to me and this is the result. In he right the blue one is do it how you teached me .

If i use the 3D max ready --made shapes i must to let out something from how you show it to me?

1 select all objects and path

2 go to Utilities --> Reset Xform --> Reset selected --> convert to spline -- > affect pivot on -- center to object --> affect pivot off ... and the loft stuffs.

    Have any idea?

Thank you,Roland.

Hello @Anonymous,

Resetting the Xform should do it, but you might also go into subobject mode, select the element, and rotate in subobject mode until it looks correct to you.  That can also work.

I apologize but I don't fully understand what you are asking me in post 42, can you please expand a bit on that for me?  Would it be possible to attach the file or PM me a link to it?  Happy to help!

Hi Alfred.

Is something with my 3dmax what is not working.

Now even the Spline--Line to dorow a line i can't do it.

In Post 42 i can't to tell to the program -- my line must to be 115mm long. Is not accepting at all. In the picture you can see i set and measured the length and is goos but when i do the loft is longer the entire Loft then 115mm -- the plus Loft part above the last shape.  Are somewhere other settings which are OFF ? In Units i set -- mm 's.

For 2 days is the 3dmax doing strange stuffs , like never before. I restarted the Laptop and 3d max. I have no idea what it is.

I try it with the Reset XForm on and off ad do it the same ugly shape with the Ellipse and Egg from Spline. With rotation will work in subobject. But why with the Spline draw it by me is working fine and with the standard shape at all ?

Thank you,Roland.

Hello @Anonymous,

This file is a bit messy, I'm not sure which part you are trying to work on.  I'll try to answer in a generic sense.  In the future, please mentions specific object names so I can be sure we're talking about the same object?  Thanks!

1) I don't see any lines that are actually 115 mm in here, at least I don't think.  You could create a box at 115 mm and use snaps to align your line points or use the measure tool.  I don't know of any way to measure the distance of a helix shape in 3ds Max.

2) The loft distance is working fine for me.  Can you please record a Screencast I can see where it's going wrong.  I don't see any problems with loft distance.

loft.png

3) Scene is getting polluted.  Try to Import->Merge everything into a new scene.

4) See image below for fixing the inverted area.  You can also find more info here about the loft tool

Hi Alfred.

             http://autode.sk/2uRBgO3 here is the screencast.

Yes sorry, i was working on the objects from the pictures i send it.

I have imported +merged in a new scene that file but still don't want it to do the line for me. Then i exported one by one from shapes and imported in a new scene and even so not worked with those shapes. I deleted from the file the ready made it objects, saved and imported and even so not worked. Is like a virus in that scene or a bug which do this after an amount of data ( kb ) , or something else.

Than i take it a new scene do it new shapes and worked .  In this picture do it like this ( the blue object and the original-egg-shape above it ) the other i clone it and is fine. After this the next object ( yellow ) was ugly again. Can be a bug ?

Screenshot (74).png

With the measure tool i succed in the new scene to adjust the right length .

Thank you,Roland.

Hi Alfred.

Take a look please at this file. I want to be such high those objects and is corect, but when i introducing the distance between the shapes in end is totally different result. F or ex. : Loft--105mm long -1 shape starts at 0 ; 2 -- shape at 26.25 ; 3 -- shape at 52.5 ; 4 -- shape at 78.75 ; 5 -- shape ends at 105mm .

Screenshot (76).pnghere this are like this . i must to set it different ?

I doing something wrong? What is that? Or the program ?

Thank you.

Hello @Anonymous,

I think maybe your user settings are corrupted, I have no trouble creating lines or any objects in this scene.  I think in your original scene you were creating objects on a hidden layer, that's the best explanation I can think of.

It would be helpful if you referred to objects by their name.  Thanks!  From what I can see, your original line is still not 105 mm.  So, that's causing the problems.   I created a box to measure it and I can see that it's not 105.  Once you solve that problem, the rest should be easier.

Hi Alfred.

I try it the Reset ,but is not working.

I searched for  C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2017 - 64bit\ENU  , but i can't find it the AppData with this file ENU or other.     The high of the line i checking noe witht he cube but instead of this is doing other measurements on thi program.

I deleted the NVIDIA ( https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max-forum/max-2017-filelink-dlu-failed-ot-initialize-after-update... ) and LAST UPDATE , but even so is worse.

Some files definetly are missing from my program. I there a checking engine inside 3D max which can search if all the files are in place?

Have any other idea ? To delete this program and download again a fresh one ? Or to open a new topic for this issue ?

Thank you,Roland.

Hello @Anonymous,

No need to delete anything... that's not necessary to reset your settings.  At this point maybe we should reinstall 3ds Max.  Would you mind reinstalling for me?   First, we should remove your old user settings.  I have recorded a video to show you how to do it.  Keep in mind that in the path %username% should be replaced with your username, you won't find a folder called %username% in there.  Does that make sense?  In the video my %username% is "t_defla".

Can you please try this for me?

Hi Alfred.

Screenshot (78).pngScreenshot (79).pngScreenshot (80).png i do it until a point how you show it to me and like in the pictures i searched in those files, but no AddData at all.

I download it thr 3D max 2018 and is doing the same stuffs about the lenght of the line, checked with the box , but when lofting is doing totally different.

Is possible when is do the .exe , that file to dissapear? I have searched all the places where Autodesk and 3D MAX files are and inside those.

I have no other idea what i doing wrong.

Can be send that file and to be incorporated it inside the missing one?

Thank you.

Hi Alfred.

With the new 3d max 2018 i can do the exact measurements now.

  1. )  But, at Lofting is doing strange loftings, flat lofting and each shape i must to rotate in place after each Loft . Try on your Pc the file '' new '' about this issue.

2.)  Problem ,the old file ,before to change the ENU file with the new one , i'm still not able to draw a line or other shape in the scene. ( LOFT MULTIPLE SHAPES ).

Can be that above the old file the new ENU has no efect?

Or i must to renew other files too ? But ,which one?

Thank you.

Hello @Anonymous,

Glad 2018 is working for you, I like that release.

1) You reset the xforms here which is good, but you should also arrange the parts vertically first.  Make sure to collapse your stack after you reset the Xforms too.  You can do that by selecting your lines and right clicking then Convert To -> Editable Spline.  When I do this everything is working fined in your new.max file.  (attached).

2) You are currently in an ortho mode in your other scene.  Press F or L to go into Front or Left view, then you can draw the line without issues.  Drawing shapes in perspective or some ortho views isn't very precise so best to use Top, Left, Front, etc.  Can you please try that for me?

Hi Alfred.

The solutions was good for both.

But still have some problems with the new 2018 too for loft and measurements. In the file is that to me the line and box are 105mm , but when i write in PATH PARAMETERS ( i chose the DISTANCE ) the 25.00mm for example is putting the shape at the middle of the entire loft  and this shape at the middle is turned X degrees already, even is not my wish to be like that. The new ENU is there.

I doing something wrong or other File to be corrupt ? If File, which one and what to do with it?

Thank you.

Hello @Anonymous,

If you are going to use "distance" then you'll need to optimize your spline a bit more.  Here's what you need to do:

  1. Select the verts in the spline, then right click and change the type to "Corner".  The handles are interfering with the spline distance measurement.
  2. Reset the XForm on the spline, make sure to collapse the stack by right clicking on the spline and selecting "Convert To-> Editable Spline".
  3. Delete your old loft.
  4. Select the main edge in sub-object mode and use the "Divide" command to divide the spline up a bit.  Let's give Max more points to measure from.
  5. Remake the Loft.

I have a file here where that worked for me, can you please try it?

Hi Alfred.

Still don't want to be the shape distance right.

I try it few times with the new shapes , but still the same.

Is putting the 2nd shape at the middle of the entire loft and from there is measuring and placing the other shapes. i chosse it a shape -> Editable Spline ->Segments ( just here is active the Divide ) -> Divide = 30 ., and after i loft the first shape are just 5 divisions on the loft. With Divide = 100 is the same.

Using the Corner is changing the shape of the shape .Screenshot (84).png

I opening your file in 3d ma 2018 and look Screenshot (85).png . On your file i can do it the distance stuff without problems. What have you on your machine or inside program what i don't have? This is the big question.

I renew it the ENU file too,but not good at all.

Any other idea ? What other experiment to do ?

Thank you.

Hi Flaming.

I do it the 6 segments of this pipe in the file you send it to me. Please take a look at the top af all lofted ones from Loft 135 -> 85 . There is something with the measurements not right.

Thank you.
