Hi Alfred.

Here is the file loft multiple shapes.

In picture 41 i do it a trial with helix, and so i can play with all the dimensions how i need and want.

Questions is : how can i recol this function after all the shapes are in place?

In tube coil file another trial with helix and some commands. I don't remember how i do it .

Question : in this can be the shape place it and after that tp recal this functions for modifying?

Hello @Anonymous,

My mistake, I saved it as 2018.  I've saved it down to 2016 and reattached to this message so you should be good to go with 2017.  No need to upgrade, I don't want to upset your pipeline over a versioning issue.  I am reviewing your other post now.

Hello @Anonymous,

Thank you for sharing the files.  I don't know of a way to run something down a path without changing the base topology a little bit, it's an inevitable result of the bending of the polygons around a curve but I think we can get something close.  Check out this file and the other file and let me know which one you prefer based on style and I'll give you instructions on how to do it.  Thanks!

Hi Alfred .

Thank you for the test files.

Is true about changing the base topology a little bit with all modifications. I think how i exercise a little with the 2 test files that somehow the PathDeform  is closer to what i need, but i will see when i put in practice the real shapes and coil.

The spline itself can be change too? Or can be applied a command to it for changing? I think when i do the tube and i see that the spline must be adjusted to my wish.

The tube has a lot of shapes. Have you done intermediate shapes or the program do it himself?

Give me please for this the intructions how to do it.

Thank you,Roland.

Thank you.

Hello @Anonymous,

I will gladly write up steps for one of these in this thread and hopefully we can create a 2nd thread for the other method and I'll happily handle it there.

You cannot modify the Surface mod from a parameters menu, it doesn't use Loft at all so it needs to be done by hand.  Do you want me to write you the steps for Path Deform?

No problem at all @Anonymous, happy to help.  If you want, you could create a new thread about the 2nd method and I can write it up there, that's no problem and I'm glad to help.

Would you prefer the Path Deform write up to be in words or in video format?  I will gladly make whichever you prefer.  Thanks very much!

Hi Alfred.

Thanks for download possibility. From now i will ask you ,if possible to be like this with the videos because of internet problems, and like that i can watch it more times .

    I have this questions  :

1 . )  i want this line to be 650 mm ( or any other ). how can i do it? i try it and change it in the RECTANGULAR -- LENGTH --650MM ,but with the MEASURE ( picture 52 ) in still this length .

2 . )  how can i draw this shape ( IMG picture ) with this dimensions ( or any others ) in 3D max ?

I searched on web ,but not really find it answers or was to old ,and what key kombinations i try it from web not worked.

Thank you.

Hello @Anonymous,

You can adjust the measurements a couple ways.  1) Use the Transform type in box.  2) Create a box or something with those exact dimensions and use snapping to snap your points to them or,  3) Use a script such as DiMaster 2.0.  (Google it for link.)

You could draw the shape with splines rather easily, or trace the image. I would create a Box that was 30 x 20 and look at it from top down in Wireframe, then use splines to draw a new shape within the box boundaries.  You might need to add an edge or two to the box and move them to align it perfectly for the cross section.  You would need to use Bezier Corner points on your splines for this.

Please hit the "Accept as Solution" button if my post solves your issue or answers your question. This lets me know that I was effective in helping you, and thank you for doing so.

Hi Alfred.

              Screenshot (59).pngScreenshot (60).png

Have any idea what i doing wrong :

Why is so ugly this interpolation between the shapes ? I rotated, moved the shapes and still like this. I introduced intermediate shapes too,to be more smooth.

Or , because my shape looks like in the picture ? Can i give a  command to align or the vertices in line ?

Screenshot (61).png can i achieve this smoothness ?

Thank you,Roland.

Hello @Anonymous,

I believe you have too little space between your points so there's less room for smooth interpolation.  You could always put a turbosmooth on top or a Relax and then a Turbosmooth to smooth it out a bit more.  The points on your cross sections and the distance between cross sections are why it's not as smooth as your image, I believe.  Does that help?

Hi Alfred.

                 Screenshot (62).pngScreenshot (63).pngScreenshot (64).pngScreenshot (65).png

In the first picture from left is an egg do it in Spline--Egg menu. I try it to change the form, but i find it there are 2 eggs in 1 and when i insert a vertex is inserted just on the top one,so the manipulation is very dificult and is not smooth. I there a solution for this ? I do it something wrong  ?

In the 2nd picture i do it all the steps XForm,Pvot,Convert to Spline and i can't use this egg in loft, just 1 time, how can be seen. What i'm doing wrong?

Is the loft not possible because the egg has a " different numbers of curves than others in the Loft " ?

Thank you,Roland.
