Time Reporting in Vault Professional

It would be of great use to many customers if there was the ability to monitor the actual time spent on a design, on a file per file basis. If it was possible to create an attribute that monitors the actual time that the file was open for editing in Autodesk Inventor, or any other design package. This would greatly assist in the time planning in a design office, and further on into the organization, by being able to closely monitor and record the length of time it took  to design, edit, check and release the project/file.

Thanks for posting the idea. However, this would be best implemented at the CAD side.

I disagree. With a CAD implementation of such a concept you are only able to do it one file at a time. Vault is a Data Management package and would make more sense if such functionality was available from Vault, and not on the CAD side. CAD is for design and Vault is for data management and reporting. All the CAD files are being managed in the Vault. Time reporting and management is a management function and not a design function, so the data management tool should be where such information is contained. Additionally, all the CAD files are contained in the Vault, and a report can be generated for multiple files within a project, without the need to look at it one file at a time.
