Filter DOWNLOADS in scheduled Cloud Drive Mapping via Desktop Connector

The Cloud Drive Mapping (Vault collaboration / project sync management) has a filter that allows us to set criteria for which files are UPLOADED, from Vault into the cloud (BIM360 Docs, in ACC, for example).

Please include the same filter when DOWNLOADING content from ACC/BIM360 Docs folders onto our Vault. There is really no reason why this could not happen both ways.

This would prove very useful to seamlessly connect AEC / Revit models from our Architectural team with the MFG Inventor team detailing/finalizing the production models. Sometimes the input for the Inventor team is located in cloud folders where other MSOffice documents, PDFs, and other information is also at, and we would like to avoid having to create an exclusive folder for the Revit model to be placed alone at.

The project sync configuratoin in Vault Professional allows to set filters for uploading files FROM Vault to the cloud-system like BIM360 Docs (See picture attached - in german). Therefore only chosen data will be uploaded from Vault to cloud. 

Thereto it would be greatful to get the opportrunity setting filters for DOWNLOAD from Cloud to Vault as well. 

For example it would be useful to set a filter so that no *.zip data will be checked into Vault.

Thanks for posting the idea. This request would have to go to the Project Sync and BIM 360 teams. The control of what is downloaded from BIM into the Desktop Connector location has to be controlled outside of Vault.

@ihayesjr Hower in fact the configuration of the Cloud-Vault connection is done in Vault as an administrator. The "Cloud Drive Mapping" ist done in the "Vault Settings". Therefore the idea is to get the possibility to configure the filters within this dialog as well.

Vault will not be able to control what is being brought down from the cloud into the Desktop Connector because it does not directly connect to the cloud. That is why this has to be controlled in the Cloud and the Desktop Connector.

Thank you for posting the idea.

However, it is not possible to control this from Vault. the Desktop Connector controls what is downloaded from the cloud.

I will pass this request over to the Desktop Connector team.

Hi,

I have been speaking with Taimur at Autodesk about applying filters to downloads using the cloud drive mapping. He's mentioned that filters only work for the Vault to BIM360 uploads, and not the other way around for downloads.

There are often times when I only need to download certain files from the BIM360 folder, and currently it is downloading everything.

I understand there are some restrictions around available attributes but, filtering based on at least “file extension” and “filename” should be something that is available. These could be easily retrieved and used for conditional download.

Is this something that could be included as part of an upcoming release? 

Also, are there any plans to have an option with adding multiple filtering to mapping to make it an “and” or “or” command. Currently it defaults to “and”, but it would be good to be able to choose between.

You can try the OR command in the value field in the filter.

I have passed the request to the team. There is no guarantee they will implement it.

How can I find out if this is something that the team will implement or not? If they're not going to implement it, it would be good to understand why they have decided not to. As it appears from this post that multiple users will benefit from this functionality. thanks

Unfortunately, that team does not have an Ideas board. There isn't a way for them to keep you informed.

You can provide direct feedback to them using the Send Feedback option by right-clicking on the systray icon.

By the way, the Desktop Connector does not download files completely. It will download a short-cut, similar to Microsoft OneDrive. Then when you want the file it will download it.

At the moment it is just possible to set a filter when uploading files to a Cloud Drive from Vault.

It would be a great improvement if it would be possible to define a filter also for downloading files from a Cloud Drive.
For example, if I can set "File Extension" as a filter to just download .nc files from Fusion Team.
