Solidworks Toolbox Attribute Update

Solidworks Toolbox Attribute Update

We use Solidworks toolbox components (screws, washers, O-rings, etc.) for a wide variety of projects and once they are first checked in with Upchain, they get automatically put into a released state and are no longer able to be checked out to change attributes (this is a 'feature' of them being toolbox components).  The problem with this is that if a designer does not fill in the attributes for this toolbox component before checking in the assembly that it belongs to, there is no longer any way to update any of the attribute information for this item.  For example, if a toolbox part gets checked in with an assembly but the designer didn't put in the manufacturer of the screw, it is impossible (minus having the support team manually invalidate the item and re-creating the item) to update the item in Upchain, rendering the BOM for that assembly rather useless.

I would like to either:

  1. Have the ability to check-out and check back in Toolbox components (to rev them up with new attributes).
  2. Have the ability to modify attributes for Toolbox components in the released state
  3. Have the ability to modify only custom attributes for Toolbox components in the released state (workaround, but could get us to a better state in the BOM)

Good point.  Upchain seems to lack appreciation for the reality that things don't always happen exactly the way they are supposed to. This is a surprisingly static/strict approach to the Toolbox.

It's not mentioned in the help that we can't change Toolbox attributes.
