Remove published documents from items

Remove published documents from items

We are utilizing linked documents on items. Once those documents are published they are forever linked to the item. If the document were ever to become irrelevant or replaced by another the obsolete or archived document has no way to be removed. Can you make an option to remove the document from an item? The document would/could still exist on the project but it needs removed from the item.

Hi @cdentonJA2P2,

Could you post an image of this "linked documents on items" in the thread?  It helps with understanding the idea you are mentioning.

Thanks,

Hi @PualQuek ,

I have the same request. Currently if there is a published document under linked items it is not possible to remove the link. For example here I have Rev A and Rev B of the same document linked and I have no way to remove the older Rev A from the link as it is in a published state. (Draft documents do show the remove link option)

Hi @pranit.nagare

Thanks for uploading an image to illustrate the idea.
I have a couple of questions;

  • After removal of the linked-document (DOC08977-A-ANTplus.png), would you want to log it inside the history of the item?
  • During removal of the linked-document(DOC08977-A-ANTplus.png), should we only remove it from this item or from all other associated items as well?
  • Should this removed linked-document(DOC08977-A-ANTplus.png), be searchable and able to linked to other items?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi @PualQuek

1. Yes that would be a good log to have as that would tie which version of the document was linked to which revision of the item.

2. It should only be removed from the the item it is currently being removed from.

3. Yes. The way we use linked documents is by uploading them in the document section of the project under general documents and then linking them to parts as needed.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I also stubled over this issue, carrying over a linked item to all later revisions, even if I clearly only want to have the link for the revision I currently have at the time, I create the link.

It should not get carried over to next revisions or at least you should be able to "remove link".
