Regenerate Visualization file on items with already existing visualization file

Regenerate Visualization file on items with already existing visualization file

Se pictures below.

Background/problem:

If a visualization file is generated for an item, it is not possible to regenerate the visualization file. If you try to regenerate the visualization file by clicking the action menu on an item and then selecting "Visualization" -> "Regenerate All" or "Regenerate One" you are getting the message shown in the picture below telling "The visualization for the selected item will not be regenerated since it already has a visualization."

Since the generation of visualization files is failing relatively frequent by generating incorrect or white thumbnails, an option for recreating these visualization files is highly needed.

Suggestion for improvement:

The "Regenerate All" or "Regenerate One" for visualization files should be available also for items with already existing visualization files.

Has any progress been made on this issue/suggestion? The only way to currently fix this is to rebuild/refresh/save-in which isn't possible for released items unless you rerelease. The blank or error thumbnail is quite common when people don't notice it or are trying to get something released quickly.

How do you get to that action menu for the visualization....I'm not even really seeing it unless it was removed in an update or something?

Hi @jhenryJ62P9

We are gathering more insights from customers like yourself who have encountered this behaviour. And we are working on exploring the various options to solve it.

To answer to your question, the capability is available for quite awhile in the web App or you do not have the relevant permission level to see it. You can access it via Click more actions icon next to the Item BOM.

Hi Paul,

Has there been any update on getting this feature added? Is it in any sort of queue for being added to Upchain? This would be a nice feature to have especially for released items and assemblies. @PualQuek

I think you're correct that I don't have access to this action menu but I will investigate to see if there's a setting IT can enable.

Thank you,

Josh

Hi @jhenryJ62P9,

Thanks for posting for an update.

Here’s a brief update on this request: Our Engineering team is currently investigating it and actively brainstorming potential solutions. I will reach out to you as soon as I have more details to share.

Please note that the action menu options "Visualization" -> "Regenerate All" or "Regenerate One" are only available for Tenant Admins.

We appreciate your patience and will keep you posted with any developments.

Hi All,

Just to post an update, if visualizations were not generated previously, you could manually create them for a part or an assembly by selecting Visualization > Regenerate One or Regenerate All.

However, with the latest update, there's now a new option: Regenerate All (Overwrite). This feature, available exclusively to Tenant Admins, allows you to regenerate visualizations for the selected item and all its children, overwriting any existing visualizations.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on this new feature, so please don't hesitate to give us your feedback!

Regards,
Paul
