Visibility/Graphics Overrides for Underlays

Visibility/Graphics Overrides for Underlays

In the Visibility/Graphics Overrides should be a separate tab for the Underlay. Often you only need to see certain categories from the underlay (ceilings, lighting fixtures, framing,...). These settings could than be included in a View Template.

Currently you either need to create Selection Filters (1 per level) or hide elements manually. It would be nice to have a more general/consistent method to show/hide elements from the underlay.

or give us different possibility to show any object fully or symbolically (thin lines, grayed out or hidden line) in any plan we want

The way that Revit renders walls and openings below is often incorrect or limited. If we could specify V/G for the Underlay (including View Range) we might actually be able to use the feature (and get decent looking plans for a change).

I really like this idea, have wished for independent control of underlays for quite some time, so hopefully gets some solid support quickly.

It would also be helpful if we could specify the underlay graphics when showing overhead vs. below, either tied to the look up/look down option or view specific overrides.

For example, when using an underlay to show what is overhead, the lines should be dashed. But when using the underlay to show what is below, it should be a halftone solid line.

Maybe being able to specify a View (instead of by Levels) would be a simpler solution (and probably easier for the Factory to implement). Sure, it would result in more views being created, but we'd have a lot more control (using the existing functions). We used to actually do this "manually" (back when we put in the extra effort to make plans look right). On the other hand, that would feel like a step backwards...

I really like this idea. Would give some great flexibility for our wood structural floor plans, which look up. I want to be able to hide everything except the columns above.

This can be achieved by Overlaying a Second View above/below your first view.  The same solution is used for existing Room Tags in New Plans.

Cheers.

While the overlaying of disparate views is clever, it complicates the CAD export and CAD background process for consultants. I used to advocate for this workaround until I worked on larger projects that required more than one Revit operator, or had to manage CAD backgrounds for other teammates.
