Make it possible to use a View Template within a View Template.

For me working in a MEP Engineering Company we use al lot of Templates with just a small difference.

It would be great for example if you can make a Filter Template with can be added to a lot of existing View Templates. The filtering within the Templates is for 60-80% the same, systems are colored etc.. Now you have to copy paste them, that's ok ...

BUT if you want to change, you have to change them all 😞 

I think, just a simple check box can do the trick, choose to use the default filter or use a Template...,

The same for default View Ranges etc... Just think and you see the opportunities :-),

(maybe even using more than one View Template, easier to build within Revit?)

why can't you set your view template to control the visibility of the background for example, then apply a view template that only contains your filters.  Each discipline could share the background template (scale, detail level, etc), and each discipline could have their own filters applied.  You can apply the filters template to as many views and you like.

That's possible, but it's still a manual action. I want to be sure, the Template On the View holds the correct settings, especially the ones used for plotting. On the other hand, if you have more then 3000 Views in the model, you don't want to do a lot of manual actions if there is a small change in a Template. This is why you use Templates isn't it?

View Filter Manager add-in available at App Store can help updating view templates.

The app contains many features for managing filters, views, view templates ( e.g. purge unused filters and view templates, copy filter overrides, etc.) and transfer project standards.

It can transfer selected items like fill patterns, line patterns, filters and view templates between multiple projects at a time, it also takes care of new filters and view templates during transfer process -  it can copy elements, replace old elements or just overwrite them, making the whole transfer process of updating files very easy.

Reuse view filter rules in schedules is also possible.

Please don't use the forums for Marketing. You have posted the same message in many Revit ideas talking about View filters. 

You have a good app, please don't ruin it with cheap annoying marketing tricks.

@Anonymous you said "Now you have to copy paste them" - does that mean that you're copying and pasting Filters between templates or are you doing something else? I tried in 2016 and it doesn't work.

Thanks for taking the time to submit your idea. Unfortunately, this idea did not get the support of the community over the last 6 months and as such we will not be pursuing it at this time. Please feel free to rework (titles and clear descriptions are really important) and resubmit this one down the road.
