View Rooms and Spaces in 3D

It would be great to be able to view rooms and spaces in 3D views, and assign color schemes to the views.  This would assist with pinning down bounding issues, as well as allowing us to create things like stacked isometrics to convey how a building functions.

the proper Revit entity room still does not show in 3D

Hi!
What are you talking about?

Hello, no idea whether I wrote that the room entity still does not show. Well, it does not. @ankofl 's brilliant tool just picks the room entities and generates proxy geometry to show in 3d. Users still have no way of knowing whether the room that is misbehaving is due to a problem with the addin or the actual room as seen fit by Revit is wrong.

Hi @MiWolff

What
do you mean, "the room is not behaving correctly"?

@ankofl Have you never experienced rooms bleeding into one another for no apparent reason? Or because someone had made, erased or altered room separation lines? Or that there were gaps in bounding entities not visible at a first glance (depending on size and zoom, of course)? The script provided makes new geometry based on what it can gather from whatever proto-geometry is provided by the api. This idea asks for the actual dynamic room entity to be displayed in 3D. Maybe my wording is misleading, because, of course, rooms behave exactly in the way they were programmed to - only that the nature of that behaviour is not always obvious.

Hi @MiWolff

Aah
, I think I understand what you mean. You would like that if there are various anomalies (for example, crossing the room), the proxy geometry should have the appropriate error color.

I
think if this is something that you will need to form a more specific definition of the final geometry, depending on the anomaly that occurs, I will try to bring it into my free time.

Have a
nice day!

Hello @ankofl ,

Thank you for sharing your code!

I just have two questions:

Is it somehow possible to extend the code in case, when I have a roof at an angle, that the room is also showing the angle at the top? This happens quite often and would be awesome to have this feature..

maja_bojanic_0-1730096951891.png

Another question:
Would it be possible to assign the rooms with the same Room Category the same color? I need this very often to check if i assigned anywhere a wrong category

This would be awesome if you can share with us!

Thank you so much for your help!

Kind regards

Hi @maja_bojanic
I don
't quite understand what you're talking about. Do you mean that the part of the space concerning the roof is not displayed? In this case, are you sure that the upper boundary of the space reaches to the top of the roof?

Ohh... I think I know what the problem is...

You could send me this .rvt-file so that I can check the execution of the code through the debugger?

I sometimes had a similar problem with the sloping roof, and... If this is the case in your case, then it cannot be solved, because the error occurs somewhere in the depths of the Revit core, perhaps even in the C++ code, and I dont have the opportunity to fix it.

In any case, to find out for sure, I need the rvt-file of your project, and preferably the Revit ID of the room with which the error occurs.

Thanks!

P.S:
I
tried to reply to you @maja_bojanic in a personal message, but I can't send it, because I allegedly exceeded the limit of personal messages:

although I haven't sent a single personal message for at least several months, as seen in the screenshot below...

This is a great idea AND it seems like "low-hanging fruit" in terms of the effort it would take to be implemented.

Hi @baleti3266

Thank you for your Input. I’ll get back to you once I’ve tested it. 😊

Thank you very much for your help!

HI  @baleti3266

I tested it and it's how I thought it would be ....
see screenshot below:

My wish is that the rooms are going till the roof like in the section:

maja_bojanic_1-1760453129342.png

Do you think you can re-write or build in the function that this one is possible too?

And one more thing:
When I place a beam, the beam is going through it  the room volumina is with the beam - but should be without the beam:

maja_bojanic_2-1760453291156.pngmaja_bojanic_3-1760453301168.png

You think these two functions would be possible to insert in the script?

Thank you for your answer
Kind regards

Maja

Pathetic that nothing has been moving on this, it's so annoying to fix rooms with only sections, plans and elevations. It's not like there' s any good reason for this not to be implemented, the effort would be very low.

@Samuel.Arsenault-Brassard How do you fix rooms with elevations. They do not show at my end. Is that a new 'feature' in R2026?

If an elevation is cutting through a room or elements, it's not so different than a section.

--

The same way we always have, you put one or more section, show the rooms explicitly and then move your section around a bunch in plan.

I find that making a view template for rooms helps:

Everything transparent, including walls. Hide most things except room bounding elements (Walls, floors, roofs, etc) Room separation lines are super thick and dashed orange.

Then also monitor room elevations in a scheudle.

It's stupid, it's painful, it's tedious, but it's what we have to do until Revit can show us rooms in 3D...

Hi @Samuel.Arsenault-Brassard
In this thread alone, several solutions were presented, including from me.
Сan I
help you with the installation?

@ankofl This thread is not about solutions provided by users but currently states that 837 users are waiting for this to be implemented by Autodesk. Your own solution is brilliant and works fine. Thanks again for it. Still it also needs to rely on whatever Autodesk cares to provide as API access to room entities and generates extra geometry. The actual rooms remain invisible.

@MiWolff
My mistake)

I
thought you needed a solution to the problem right now)

From
the experience of other votes - to be honest, I don't remember that at least one of them was implemented in Revit, I don't understand at all why this voting functionality is needed if nothing that users vote for appears in Revit.

"I don't understand at all why this voting functionality is needed if nothing that users vote for appears in Revit."

lol funny but sad. Also confusing that this is where you choose to spend your time if this is what you think.

There's a help forum to help people who need a temporary solution. The Ideas group is for long term core fixes.

my therapist recommended to keep doing it
