View Rooms and Spaces in 3D

View Rooms and Spaces in 3D

It would be great to be able to view rooms and spaces in 3D views, and assign color schemes to the views.  This would assist with pinning down bounding issues, as well as allowing us to create things like stacked isometrics to convey how a building functions.

For a project I want to show the client an overall look of his building, combined with an 3D model. I would like to show my rooms in the 3D view, (color fill legend). Wouldn't it be great if a function came for this? Or is this implemented in the 2017 versions?

I got a workaround for now, by changing the graphics per view I color in a room according to the legends colors. Problem: when I want a color changed in the color fill legend, I have to do manualy in the 3D view as well. Plus, the graphics overriding takes unecessary time.

I would like to be able to see, select and modify the visibility of room and space objects in any 3D view.

For the MEP trades, having the Analyze > Spaces & Zones > Color Schemes functionality working in 3D view would be a huge boon to productivity.  Currently our MEP engineers have to make a ton of view filters to produce the same effect for System Type color visibility.

Sorry Pieter, the auto-suggest didn't show your idea.  I've voted you up 🙂

@colin.magner It wasn't my idea but I just thought it would be better to keep all ideas together. With 875 ideas on this platform I'd say most interesting ideas are probably already posted somewhere 🙂

Room Color Scheme in 3D is highly required to perform complete study in 3d views, on the models with their defined rooms.

Recommended for facilitating reviews.

It will be great if I could see my Rooms in 3D Views.

As currently I need to use Dynamo for this purpose

The best would be to have a predimensioned room with a surface that could be an import of the program. We could import the complete program from an excel file and have the rooms placed by levels like boxes with surface and volume. Then it should be possible to move the rooms between boundaries and tell the rooms to use boundaries to calculate the real surface.  Original program value should remain available as a parameter. Naturally all this should work both in 2D and 3D views.

We've completed our review of this idea. After investigating the effort required to implement this request, we unable to add it to our roadmap at this time due to other priorities. However, we think this is a great idea so we will reconsider it as we made adjustments to our roadmap in the future. Thanks for the submission and keep voting!

@harlan_brumm can you provide a half year update as to how this is progressing.

Its not just a cool idea, its an imperative - fundamental to visualizs spaces during spatial planning of a project, crucial to clients and partners that there are no surprises later as the design develops.

The BSRIA Design Framework for Building Services (UK) describes the concept very well - perhaps not widely referenced in other corners of the globe, but if enabled you'd be applauded. Indeed, in the US vernacular, consider the LOD100 definition. Of course devil is in the detail, but getting this functionality up is fundamental to ethos of successful digital delivery !

To add to this we should be able to add spaces to the project in a 3D view, this would help with double height rooms etc.

Should apply to areas (see as 2D fill), rooms and spaces
