Use Filters as a direct Selection Tool

It only seems logical to use Filters as a direct Selection Tool. Like in Etabs, SAP 2000 or other structural analysis software. Even Autocad has QuickSelect by using Filter rules. Filters such be a Selection mode. Why keep selecting a bunch of stuff, then filter out the garbage? It's redundant. Just Filter-Select already!

Why select an item, then right-click on it, then Select Similar? It's worse than Ctrl-A (select all), then use Filters! Just make Filter-Select in one step.

There is a tool called QuickSelect by CADmasters available as a plug-in from the Autodesk store. I believe on downloading there is also a chance to recommend a plug-in as worthy to be included in a future release of the package.

Nice Add-In! Was looking for such a feature... Should be in Revit out of the box!

As my earlier recommendation is no longer free, this might bridge the gap: Make a schedule for the type of element you need to filter, apply a filter to your, if you do not itemize every instance, you end up with a short list of your selection. If you highlight that row and change into a model view (I found 3d views work best), note that the funny funnel symbol on the bottom right of your screen now shows what you had selected inside the schedule.
