Uninstall Tool

Uninstall Tool

Please create an uninstall tool for Revit (at least, ideally all products).

I'm aware there's a KB article detailing it, but we shouldn't have to follow these steps manually which look like they could easily be scripted by the company that makes the software. As an admin it's not realistic to manually follow those steps on every user's machine when there's some sort of issue.

Autodesk knows how everything works internally, a tool that can clean up a failed install or corrupted update and delete any remaining files would be amazing.

It shouldn't check if something's currently installed, it should check each thing that may have been installed and clean up any leftovers - otherwise it wouldn't detect a failed/corrupted install and would be useless.

I can only imagine how many effort-hours of ICT time this would save.

Hi @kimberly_fuhrman-jones

I understand that this may be a more appropriate place for this post, but I had put it in the ideas for visibility.

Specifically this KB https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-Complete-a-... has a link

john_viaeneECCFG_0-1724108827118.png

to this page https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message/?filter=location&q=%22uninstall%22%20AN...

And my post would then show up for people looking for a tool like this.

Alternatively if all ideas like this are going to be moved could the link be changed to this so it shows up?

The above has been resolved, leaving here for clarity/posterity

"Clean Uninstall" should be an option within the uninstaller.  This shouldn't need to be a separate tool.

@ks2_wmb I feel that should also be an option, but it would be great to have it as a standalone tool

- easier and smaller to deploy if needed

- a deployment is ~15GB, an uninstall tool should be much smaller

- manage uninstallation without needing to have the deployment files (especially handy with older deployments because Autodesk doesn't like to make them available)

Please add in Autodesk Inventor too! And for for Autocad. In Inventor there was, but with new setup via download is not longer available.

Additionally, I would add the need for an option to uninstall all features at once. Revit consists of dozens of parts (such as the main program, add-ins, and libraries), which makes the removal process very cumbersome.

"Clean Uninstall"

Very much needed for uninstalling the product.

Also, please include functionality to fix the following error in an uninstall tool:

I can't believe this is still even an issue.   I'm even fine following the KB article outlining the steps for a Clean Uninstall.  The problem is that even after following the steps you still have a good chance of seeing the dreaded "Revit is already installed" when trying to reinstall.    Insanity...

so they just lied about offering to make this a feature huh

@tomwolfzorn @mcastaldoQWPL8 are you surprised?

This is what I currently use, please note it doesn't check if C:\Temp exists or if the SCCM client is installed - I just directly dumped the uninstall tool I wrote, hope this helps.

Years past time this should exist.

Autodesk, like Microsoft, QA/QC circling the toilet bowl.

Checking on the status of the "Clean Uninstaller" as we've got some systems that we either can't remove or can't update Autodesk products.

@aisett still nothing from Autodesk (no surprises there)
This is the script I wrote for it, using the steps in their uninstall KB. It should work for Revit and 3ds Max versions 2021 and newer
