Text Editor - Column Tool

Text Editor - Column Tool

I would like to see the "column" tool from the AutoCAD Mtext tool be added to the new text editor that came out in the 2017 release of Revit. The new functionality of the text editor in 2017 is leaps and bounds compared to the old one, this would be a nice addition for a future release...

As a follow-up to my upvote, a concrete example.

For smaller projects, sometimes instead of a specification book, we'll do sheet specs--specification sections in wide (~8.5") columns on a sheet, just like drawings. Of course, some spec sections require multiple columns, so it would be very useful if the text could flow from one column to the next.

Totally agree about the sheet spec utility.

Any time now Autodesk please and thank you.

This thread has been around for a while now and people still want this feature.

Autodesk doesn't care about you unless you're a builder. Us architects and engineers are ignored.

Amazing that this idea is still "Gathering support" after seven years. It really makes it hard to make the case for transitioning fully to Revit from Autocad when we'd lose such basic functionality as dynamic columns in the process. I'd expect the text editor in Revit to be at least as functional as the one in its predecesor.

One more piece of functionality that would be so easily implemented in Revit but isn't (and probably never will be).  Text boxes in Revit are only slightly on par with 1990's wordperfect.  ...sad

Can someone from Revit get on here and let us know why this is too difficult for the developers to implement? Revit's text features are horrendous and rivaled only by microsoft notepad. You do realize that a set of working drawings isnt just pretty pictures, there's a LOT of text that needs to be included as well.

I totally agree. A serious weakness that should be relatively easy to fix.

Autodesk - you are a joke when it comes to providing value for money in our software that we pay a subscription for. This such basic function is obviously not on your radar despite the length of time the user community has been asking for it. To busy putting on bells and whistles that look flashy in a marketing campaign I say !!!!!!

Maybe I hold off paying my subscription for as long as Autodesk has been ignoring us ?

Still not implemented? Unbelievable

Why are we still talking about this? Architects, engineers, landscape architects, interior designers, everyone who uses Revit has text lists. Why do we have no control over them? Could AUTODESK please do something about this? Of course, they keep thinking that they have improved Revit stairs...

I'm told his feature will be added in Revit 2045

Right?! 🙂 Any relation to Kathy Sarafian?

Hard to believe this is still an issue.

Maybe Autodesk staff are more resistant to changes the more the community complains.

So, after almost a decade of using Revit I've found the cumbersome action of manually breaking up the text into two separate text boxes is actually the better route. No reason to implement a column function, us Revit users will continue with the hair-pulling task as it currently stands.

It is completely insane this hasn't happened yet
