Stop section flags from detaching from their view range

For the love of all things Divine, please stop section flags from detaching from the view's range (box?) they represent!  Seriously, where did you think this is a good idea? Where, in the entire history of drafting, has a section flag been (sometimes 100s of) feet away from the area they are pointing to? How many times have section views become "lost" because, though the view box was in the view, the flag was outside the view and the section view or flag cannot be found?  Yes, you may need to adjust the head and tail of a section flag inside or outside of the view range but not (never ever) completely off. Also, if a section flag and view is set to a floor, that flag should not move floor to floor. I have seen flags set on one floor completely disappear on the next floor even though the view extends through the entire building.

Is this not just because of user error? There needs to be a flexibility between section and representation.

This definitely seems like a user error item.  I have never run across a situation where the section annotations were completely removed from the section itself (I've been Revit-ing since 2008).

I for one, love that the head and tail can pull off the actual extents of the section so I can make my drawings more organized and read more clearly.

It's not user error when you set a section that crosses multiple floors then go to a floor above or below and the section is gone because the flag is no longer visible in the view.  And yes, flexibility is needed and the flags have plenty of that which is great. The comment is not why it happens but that it does happen. And this is in working views. If the section is used on a sheet then it is typically set, pinned and never moved.

Can you record this experience with a screencast? I have a hard time imagining/believing that Revit would do that without user error since It's never happened to me in 7+ years.

If anything, I think the section could obtain a "reset graphic to actual section" button.

@Anonymous I cannot record this because it's not something I make happen, It just happens. I have been working on Revit since 2007 and it's a regular occurrence. And, "reset graphic" doesn't work if you cannot see the flag because it's out of the view though the extent is still in the view. Also there shouldn't be a need for "reset graphic", the software should work so it's never an issue.

@nickYM4b9 You are correct. The head and tail should be able to be manipulated off the extents of the section as they are, but, not completely off so they have no relationship to the section. It is great how you can break a section flag, adjust them to show off-set section, move the head and tail so they do not overlap background information.

Comments keep saying "user error" why would anyone in their right mind do this on purpose?

Users do errors because they did not learn BIM, they are still doing CAD in a new software.

From my experience, this never happens because of the software, this would be the result of a user doing it. I say this because it never happened to me unless it was a modification I did.

Next time you see this, find out who last modified the section using the Worksharing Display: Owners setting.

Before touching the section, turn on this mode and hover your cursor over the problematic section, it will show you who last modified it after a few seconds. This will help you identify who needs more training/control.
