Pretty Simple, If we do all of our piping and modeling in Revit, and Autodesk is pushing Fabrication in Revit, then why the heck can we not take our piping and translate those objects to a line style drawing??? is it that hard???
Might want to elaborate a bit more on what you want to see done.
For my part, there's little in common with P&IDs and the model aside from maybe matching valve tags (assuming that they are, in fact, tagged on the P&ID). I've used multiple "smart" systems which attempt to automate coordination between model and P&IDs and they have ALWAYS fallen well short because there's little to no way to get from one to the other in either direction.
I’m sorry, but this is not a viable solution. People are in P3D or they are in Revit. Very few companies rely on both for piping solutions. Why the heck would you want the process to leave one product just to round trip back to originating software? Why don’t you just build the solution in the software people are asking for it to be in?
I work in the Ammonia Refrigerations services and am in big-time need of a better solution to P & IDs in Revit. I am aware we could use 3D Plant but we are not set up and have not invested any resources in this app. We use MEP Fabrication or autoCAD for these services right now and are trying to move to Revit but P & IDs are a big hurdle to overcome. Is there any solutions out there other than Plant 3D that can help with this?
Plant 3D should not be the solution for this. Many people are using MEP Fabrication. There needs to be a solution for bringing this in and connecting it. I don't need it to bring pipes in, I need it to match equipment. When I draw my pipes in Revit, that is what I am going to be drawing and building off of. THIS IS A HUGE TOPIC THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT THOROUGHLY. P3D is a bear to set up, especially when a company has already dropped thousands to get the Fabrication database to a usable level since it doesn't come built-in Revit.
if you have plant 3D the P&ID modeler works inside of Revit, therefore it’s a good solution. My company uses autocad and doesn’t have plant setup so it doesn’t work for us. And we have already invested a lot of time and money into autocad databases
