Site Models: Fix hatch patterns for shape edited floors!

Site Models: Fix hatch patterns for shape edited floors!

Revit's surface patterns can't be used on toposurfaces (they're unsupported), neither can they be used on shape-edited floors, because they distort badly.

Paving patterns can't therefore be drawn in Revit, without the workaround of duplicating floor objects (to have a 2D version used solely for the hatch pattern). This is a serious time-eater and discourages the use of BIM for site modelling and landscape drawings.

If you doubt that surface patterns distort, then watch the embedded screencast video (only 23 seconds!) The floor has been had 'Modify Sub-Elements' applied, to shape edit the corner levels in a very simple way - a single fall gradient. When the boundary is amended, the surface pattern goes haywire!

Idea: Fix the hatch patterns!

Autodesk, can we please un-archive this as an idea, get it re-activated and fixed as a serious issue!?

Please fix this!

I'm also a landscape architect and this is SUCH a fundamental issue that needs to be fixed. I dont see why this is such a hard issue for Autodesk to fix as your are already defining a region with your floors so why cant you just use the region to define the hatch pattern instead of projecting it on the surface? This KILLS me that I have to duplicate work just to get my hatch patterns to read right.

PLEASE AUTODESK, FIX THIS ISSUE!!!

CS ArtisanRV has am Overlay Region utility to address this issue specifically...

Overlay Region

The Overlay Region tool is available from the Terrain panel.

The Overlay Region utility is used to mask the breaks in pattern on triangulated Floors, which may appear fragmented if the usual Material Appearance is displayed in a multi elevational Floor.

To correct the display in a Plan View, select Overlay Region from the Terrain panel and select a Region Pattern Type from the pop-down menu in the Region Overlay dialog.

Select a Floor to apply the Overlay Region to and the new Overlay Region is created with the selected Pattern Type displayed.

It may be necessary to hide Floor elements or categories from the 2D view to better display corrected hatch pattern in the Overlay Region.

I started a new post on the idea board. Please go and vote so we can get Autodesk to fix it.

More basic, but broken functionality that Autodesk turns a blind eye to despite the fact that the problem has been clearly and simply pointed out above - it should be possible to correctly align model hatches on floors with modified sub elements, period. This is required to model and correctly display any kind of floor or external works surface with a fall on it.

Additionally it need take only 1 person to point out your product is broken Autodesk, not a democratic vote. Broken is broken. But don't bother, just continue to spend all your development time on Cloud products no one wants instead of the core functionality required to make your main product useful in the real world.

I've come to the conclusion that Revit for site /landscape design is absolutely pointless. This was posted nearly 5 years I ago and the problem is still there.

It does literally nothing it needs to do well, everything is a workaround solution and the only other solution seems to be to buy an add on-adding yet more cost to the already high cost of buying Revit.

Fully understand the frustration for landscape professionals operating Revit in anger and trying to make it fit a service it was not (originally) intended for... this is the reason we committed to building CS ArtisanRV as an add-in for the sector. The obvious consequence is that this has to come at an additional cost. We intend to list discrete tools/utilities on the Autodesk App Store and Overlay Regions, Topo to Floor, Linear Path/Area Pad are obvious contenders that could be available at a much more affordable rate than a subscription to the full blown add-in.

The ideal solution would be for Autodesk to be able to offer a Revit Landscape solution... would always be happy to discuss this with them!!!!
