Silently install updates

Silently install updates

For some reason, Autodesk decided to change the way for installing updates with the 2022 software. One can no longer silently install the downloaded update .exe file. It has to be extracted and then the various .msi and .msp files have to be installed one by one. Had a small discussion about this with one of the support members of Autodesk. Turns out it's probably due to the new installer - ODIS, that came up with versions 2022 (in some software it was released earlier).

The work-around is a bit ‘how you do it’. But it certainly adds to the time needed (and complexity) to get 2022-software up-to-date. That’s weird, considering the pre-2022 updates would install OOTB. So Autodesk, please redesign the 'update experience'?

I'd like to add that Autodesk really needs to consider that running Windows with full admin rights it not a good idea.  And sysadmins need the ability to easily deploy Autodesk software silently and automatically.  A simple command line that consistently works would be much appreciated!

Agreed, Autodesk updates and installations are rarely the same from patch to patch, and version to version.

This includes Revit and AutoCad products version 2016 to present.

I've wasted hours of my life working and testing silent patching and wish there was some simple way to do this the same way every time.

BTW I am currently testing a patch for Revit 2023.0.2, it's been running for 2+ hours and so far nothing

I just installed AutoCAD 2023 update 1.2 and this one _does_ install silently?

Start "" /B /wait "<path>\AutoCAD_2023.1.2_Update.exe" -q

Puzzling....

@mrogalski : could very well be an add-on refusing to install. I experienced that on some machines. Just kill the installer and have a look at the log file. Chances are the update for Revit itself installed ok, but the installation of add-ons failed, keeping the installer running indefinitely.
