Selection "Pre-Filter"

Selection "Pre-Filter"

Instead of a giant pick window then filtering out what I want to be selected, just the same concept in reverse.

If I am working in a lighting plan and need to move or modify a lot of switches, a "pre-filter" so that my clicks and mouse drags to not grab anything but switches.

This exists for links/underlay/pinned elements, but would be nice if you could make it work for any category.

Hi, it would be great to have a feature which allows you to turn off selection of certain elements.

i.e if you're doing wall tags, you can choose to select walls ONLY rather than isolating the element from the plan.

Go get pyRevit. It is free. The tool you require is called Pick.

I'd like to see this feature integrated into Revit. pyRevit is neither supported nor maintained by Autodesk. We had a bug with our files, and Autodesk customer service said to us: 'I see you have a plugin installed; try to remove it.' Of course, we have a plugin because Revit lacks so many basic features! (The problem was pyRevit.)

As a rule, I'd like to see UX features handled by Autodesk and not third parties. Plugins should remain for specialized use cases.

I seem to spend a huge amount of time trying to select elements in 2D and 3D views, hitting 'tab' as many times as it takes to select the one obvious thing that is visible on the screen.  Could Autodesk use AI or some other technique to train Revit in what humans are most likely to want to select to speed up this process?

Typically I'm trying to select an element which the cursor is pointing at, and it would be completely obvious to a human what I'm trying to select, but it will be one of the very last items to be selected as I cycle through the possibilities using 'tab'.  If this process could be improved it would be one of the many tweaks that would vastly improve our modelling efficiency and user experience.

This is part of a general wish that Autodesk would focus of user experience, efficiency, & workflow for future Revit releases, rather than new features.  There are so many bugs, rough edges, and arbitrary limitations yet to be ironed out of Revit decades after it's release, and it's really time to come back and and add a bit of polish and usability to the basic interface that has been missing for years.

pyRevit has the Pick tool which allows you to do that.  It would be nice for this functionality to be built in.

Didn't know about it @Ric_Weber . Thank you for sharing. Sadly it seams it has only some categories available... And none of those are spaces. Could use that just now 🙂

Ideate Explorer also allows this.

@Susana_Duarte_LMSI I think shift clicking the pick tool will allow you to select all categories Revit has. Still Revit should be able to offer this without assistance.
