Revit Integration with Excel

Revit Integration with Excel

We need a lot to have a full- direct integrated tool between Revit and excel,

which enable us to export an excel sheet from Revit , update the schedule and the exported parameter values in excel , import again in Revit , and by default all updated data that has been modified in excel , to be updated in Revit too after import.

Why is this not a built-in tool for Revit? It is such a useful reason for using Revit for BIM. I don't think it is good enough that we should have to pay more for a plug-in to do something that should be a built-in facet of the software. It costs enough as it is! AECOSIM has these tools as part of the out-of-the-box software package, surely Revit can as well?

Agree, how hard can it be...

I would suggest splitting up this post into two. Autodesk is very unlikely to accept double ideas as they're not sure what people actually voted for. For example: I would vote for a better excel export functionality with support for fonts, borders, colors, ...

For us, an excel import would be less important.

I see your point and agree that a simple excel export should also be available in an out-of-the-box Revit. At the very least. However, my wish is more for being able to export, make amendments to parameters and then reload this data back into revit. It's a powerful tool and makes life much easier for those handling the data to do it in excel rather in the Revit schedules. There are a number of add-ins that can be purchased for this but I think it is high time we get it with Revit.

I would be really helpfull if we could export schedules directly in Excel.

unfortunately you have to use workaround method,

open the schedule
Export -> Reports -> Schedules
this is shall export your data to txt file which can easily opened in excel as rows & columns

it will be more good and time saving to export to excel directly as you suggest

Since there is this clumsy workaround and several Add-ins that would do exactly what you wish for and more, there would probably never be this upgrade. Pity.

here are some ways to that:

Hi,

I found a new startup in germany, they deal with a tool similar as Axcel in REVIT.

The Tool names TaBLES.

http://planworks.de/

here you can create different Schedules and save them in *.XLS, work in Excel and open the file after in TABLES to put all new inputes to REVIT.

great ,,,the tool that you are talking about I think is the same as "Ideate" ,,,and this is what I am using now  ,,,I wish to be built in "Revit " as already done in "Aecosim"

Yes, the whole problem here is that it is and should be a part of using revit. Revit, in my opinion, is not complete without this function built-in. It definately shouldn't be a case of having to buy extra software to make Revit do something it ought to do itself.

Adding instance in elements to develop LOD data or concatenate the asset tagging with the universal ID,

it can be used to import back the data using the

Hence I know there are some add-ins that do so such as schedule sync also can be done by dynamo.

but for regular user such a tool in the ribbons can be helpful.

@AHMED.ELNASHAR I Agree, there are lots of addins that connects Revit with Excel but this should be a native function.

@Magnus.B In mega-projects it is one of the major setbacks for Revit compared to other BIM software ,specially if you are using the models for project controls.

besides , I faced some errors with importing schedule when dealing with models that contain 10000+ elements.

@Kimtaurus Yes, saw that to, even had a comment there from last year 🙂

A fundamental and simple idea that Revit still doesn't support.  Importing and exporting to excel (or CSV) or anything should be very robust.  Long term users like me get tired of droning on and on about the same problems year in and year out...but native excel import and export needs to be better.

Yet another workaround, the one that we use is RF Tools.  It has a couple of very nice features that we use all the time.  1> to import excel (draft excel, which basically turns an excel spreadsheet into a drafting view).

2> To export, modify and import large amounts of data you can use parameter schedulers.  It works great, but the UI is very complex and hard to use even if you've used it before.

Here's to hoping we get some attention on this one...

I've put another vote onto both this post and https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/revit-integration-with-excel/idi-p/6950055 Hopefully it helps this time. There is alot of great updates in Revit 2019 but this still isn't one of them.

I've tryed every technique from plugins (never works with large quantities) to Dynamo (still playing with my formulas to get them right) but I always go back to the old txt file. This allows for final manipulation but gives no ability to import from excel to Revit.

Hi,

export directly to xls, including pictures would be much appreciated. I am surprised this is not part of the core Revit project.

Data connection form xls to revit is not that needed, but it would be helpful too. ArchiCAD can do both of these. It would be good if Revit could too.

See ArchiCAD example here:

It would be very useful if Revit LT could export schedules directly to .xlsx excel format. Raster images and vectors should be also exported as part of the sheet. Exporting to .txt and than importing to excel is tedious task. These kind of tedious repetitive tasks should be handled by software. As an example of how the export could work, see this video of ArchiCAD functionality:
