[REVIT IDEA] - CANCEL ALL (FORCE CANCEL CURRENT COMMAND)

[REVIT IDEA] - CANCEL ALL (FORCE CANCEL CURRENT COMMAND)

Hi!

It's quite common that Revit gets unsresponsive inside commands. Loading heavy IFC files or while editing geometry and such. You can't cancel what Revit currently is doing.

This gets really frustrating, especially when you're stuck inside an editing mode, such as editing roofs, and you can't cancel what your'e doing and have to force close the software.

A "Cancel all" (force cancel) command would be great. So that you always have the option to cancel what you're doing and sync your work before trying again. You should always have a way to cancel editing, loading and such.

Force closing because of an unresponsive software looses valuable time.

When a command in Revit ties up the program, and it starts to cause a crash or the spinning wheel of death, it would be great to be able to press Esc multiple times to cancel the command, to prevent Revit from becoming unresponsive or worse crashing and losing work. This feature would be a lifesaver!

You could potentially even add a task manager like feature to Revit where you could stop individual commands and see how much memory each command was taking up.

You are working, and sometimes, Revit takes hours to perform a simple task. Nobody knows why, so you want to cancel. You know, that tiny button at the bottom of the screen.

But it never works! Worse, it often makes Revit crash.

Completely useless.

I'll bet you're talking about cut and fill calculations, and/or color fill calcs. I'm posting a suggestion to be able to turn off calculations altogether. Please look for that and vote for it!!

I just locked myself for 20 minutes by selecting all viewports (110) in document and unchecking "Crop Region Visible".

It would be great if that didn't happen.

Also, in the example above the question is also, why did revit needed to process for so long if many of those view were not even open???

We may need to uncrop and recrop views (and remove and reaply scope boxes) in bulk without actually opening them when we need to preform a simple task of propagating grid extents between views...

So as an added request: please make propagating extents to not need to uncrop views at all. Thanks!

Or even better, make Revit more efficient so it doesn't take 20 minutes to begin with.

I don't know if the issue here is related to CPU use, but i find it hilarious that in 2026 Revit still only uses a single core/thread for most features. Every modern CPU in professional use has at least 8 cores (16t) these days and most software uses multi-threading.
