Remove Demo when Binding

Remove Demo when Binding

When you BIND in a Linked Revit model, you can use the Phase Mapping to force everything to an Existing Phase.

But EVERYTHING come into that Phase.

If you have Demolished elements, those remain in the project and are now indistinguishable from the rest of the Existing Phase.

Revit should, preferably, just delete anything that's been Demolished.

Or we should have an option to choose to remove all Demolished elements.

Why not just keep the original phasing, then show all demolished (only), select & delete?

Why not?

Because it's an extra step I shouldn't have to do.

Thus the "option" comment.

Re: the original phasing, We often use the Bind Link process when we do a subsequent remodel in a project.

We do a lot of Health Care projects and, since we've been using Revit for over 10 years, we've got a many projects that we already have a Revit model for. The "master" model then is all converted to "existing". Many of our projects have multiple Bid Pack phases, and we don't want to drag those long into a new project. We'd end up with dozens or even hundreds of obsolete, unnecessary "phases"

Oh, OK. I was thinking that was probably what you were using the model for, but wasn't sure.

However, it seems that what you really need is just some sort of a "flatten" tool? Something (maybe just an app) that would "Convert to Finished Model" (deleting all temporary & demolished elements, and bringing everything into one phase). This should be something that can be implemented using the API (but I'm always surprised by gaps in the API & Dynamo). In addition to posting here, you might want to also post in the Exchange Apps Ideas:

What threw me off was the request for it to be part of the Bind process. Why link it in (if you're just going to Bind it), instead of just modifying the original model? Or have you already linked in the previous model as existing (maybe in a schematic design model?), but now want to "purge" the demo stuff and phases for performance reasons?

Another reason to have more options regarding phasing, when binding a model:

I have one file with existing and new construction; I want to link and bind this into another file. The problem is that when you bind a model, it converts EVERYTHING to the phase of the view you're in. So now I cannot distinguish between what's supposed to be existing, and what's new.

That's a big problem!

I absolutely support, that you should be able to maintain phasing when binding a link.

I have more than 20 links that needs to be binded with phasing. Any suggestions of what to do?

Thanks.

Any traction on this or an idea on how to solve the problem?

I'm a consultant that only needs one background file to place my specialty equipment components into, but some architects have many extra layers for phases, and design options that bulk up my file size and confuse the layout.  And to top it off they have revit links of existing buildings within it.  I need to bind their file and the existing building background to import into my model as a revit link.

I need a way to condense options and phases into one clean model file that I can use as my background.
