Remove Autodesk AI Assistant

Remove Autodesk AI Assistant

Hi,

I would like to propose Autodesk remove the AI assistant released in 2027. In our brief testing, the assistant is laughably bad and lags far, far behind other 3rd-party plugins or LLMs using MCP. Some examples:

It was told to color rooms by area (blue for rooms below 500sf and red for rooms above 500sf). It added one color scheme per room, each scheme named as the room's GUID, and each one colors all rooms blue. This was run on a test model with 300 rooms, it put one entry in the undo list for each room.

It assumes units in feet, even if the project units are metric. If you tell it to use different units, it will respond that it's using the specified units, but ignore them when changing the model.

It does not accurately change the correct parameters when asked. In one test, it input values into "extrusion start" when asked to input to "extrusion end"

Most of the queries of model elements are just...a way to burn tokens instead of making a schedule (that's already in our template). It can also create views and put them on sheets. We've had free plugins to do that for 15+ years that are deterministic, and we used them years ago to set up our template and have very little need to do this on a per-project basis.

It cannot place correct furniture in rooms or lay out apartments like say Finch does. It doesn't provide functionality like Testfit. It doesn't replace any of the tools in pyRevit.

This is why I am proposing Autodesk remove the assistant, or at the very least allow BIM managers to disable it with a UI. For anyone looking to disable it firm-wide right now, you can simply rename or delete the .addin file in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit 2027\AddIns\Assistant

Yea, its pretty useless at this point. Not sure if their goal was for it to be trained by us or if they genuinely thought it would be useful. But its not even capable of being trained because it lacks so many capabilities. For instance, it doesn't have access to elements of the API like what a tag's host is. I'm sure there is more, but that is such an insanely basic thing that the simplest Dynamo script can pull.

I think they were pushed to release it for marketing purposes, long before it was ready.

Wait, you have to use tokens to use a (non-functioning) feature in Revit? Subscription fee is not enough to use all features?

Sorry I meant tokens in the general AI token burn sense. Autodesk isn't charging for this now, but depending on the LLM, it can be enormously expensive to run, especially if it gets things wrong and a user tries it again, and again, and again...so pure speculation but I wouldn't count anything out.

In our case it is worse. We are not allowed to use the Public Cloud on our projects (US Gov. Projects) so we have to disable it until they will provide their MCP server on a FEDRAMP Moderate compliant Cloud.

Indeed if we work with clients that ask not to use AI in the projects we need to have the possibility to disable this feature. Would be great if we could do this in the installation procedure.
