Reference View from another model (not linked)

Reference View from another model (not linked)

We have large projects with multiple building models and 1 model containing our typical details. Wouldn't it be nice to reference views from another model without having to link it? Even if it's linked, we should have that option so we don't need to have fake sections and callouts.

This would be great for cross discipline coordination also. How often do people add "SEE MECH" , "SEE ARCH" would be nice if you know the detail you would like to reference to just point the contractor directly to that section in the mechanical or architectural model with a view reference or section cut.

Details on Drafting View or in Model View?

We have this:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/EN...

It's imposible for Model View, but you can export it as DWG and then insert it in a Drafting vew.

Samuel,

My idea would not require to insert the views but would reference a view in another model. Wouldn't matter if its a drafting or model view. That's why I'm asking for Autodesk to make the impossible possible 🙂

We have a similar issue with this.  We partner up with other Architecture firms and sometimes we spit the work say floor plans (interior model)by one firm and elevations (Core and Shell model) from another firm.  We need to show the elevations they have created and placed on sheets in their model in our floor plan sheets.  We are forced to copy their elevation tags and create a dummy sheet to place all these views so that they are referencing the right sheet.  If we can show window and door tags from a linked model, can there be a way to show elevation/section/callout markers from a linked model?

Out of all my wishes and desires; this would be my highest priority.

Has anyone gotten a solution for this problem?

What if there was some sort of 'sheet cloud'.

You could see what sheets are in a model without having to open any models.

You would have the sheet cloud linked to all the models maybe as a .txt file, and from that we could extend the 'reference other view' function to callouts. 🙂

I wish there were a solution to this yet. Our workaround is to create a dummy view at our office and place it on an empty sheet; then, we reference it for our sections on the other sheets. The only issue is that if section number changes, you have to go update it manually, so I try to do it as one of the last items before issuing the set.

The solution you are looking for is called ViewAQC. Here is the link: https://www.cdvsystems.com/viewaqc

As a Revit application providing management of live view references across multi-model Revit projects, ViewAQC’s unique functionality is critical to coordinating large BIM project document sets to cross-reference views between multiple Revit models. No duplication of Revit views or sheets is required. The project models can be linked or not, use BIM360/ACC or not, and no duplicate views are needed.
