Ref Planes - add more info / create Schedule

Ref Planes - add more info / create Schedule

A project or family can be cluttered with ref planes. Removing them can be risky - you can't see for what they are used. They could host elements, be used to align elements (like the top of a wall under a stairs), to constrain elements etc.

As a rule of thumb, we name essential ref planes. At least, we should. But that's not always the case. And then there's the orphaned ref planes, created in skewed or angled views that have been deleted, so you'll never find those ref planes again.

My idea is to add more info to ref planes, like if they are used for any of the above (and preferably more).

And it would be very handy to create a schedule for ref planes, so they will all be visible - even the orphaned ones.

Hi, @Simon_Weel ,

Is this Revit Idea close enough to combine with yours?

Schedules, Reference Planes - Autodesk Community

Thank you for your Idea submission!

I'd be happy with a 'purge all unused reference planes" button for reference planes that are not linked to anything. They can be hard to find sometimes

Having a view state that highlights what objects are linked to it would be very helpful as well.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones that sounds the same to me, the two ideas should be merged and votes consolidated. @Simon_Weel has a good use case for @luke-olson 's idea.
