Frequently Revit will crash for one reason or another. Even if you save and sync often (which I do) there is always some work/time lost. It would be grand if the programmers could write in the ability to recover work done since last sync/save so we're not constantly doing rework.
If Revit could somehow be doing automatic, continual backups/saves, that would be great... IF it could be done in the background and didn't bog down the system. That's the part that I doubt if they could do much about.
But if you're having Revit crash that often that you need to ask about this functionality, you are having bigger issues I'm afraid. It is not normal that your Revit should be crashing that often. You might look into putting in a support ticket. I haven't had Revit crash on me in months. And then it was probably something I did wrong. I am frequently working on two or three large projects at one time. Both on ACC and on our server. And I don't have a big powerful cpu... pretty basic setup really.
YEH, I edited a tag and saved it back to the server, then reloaded it and revit crashed. I moved a unistrut brace left 3" and revit crashed. I added a text note and revit crashed. i have a pretty beefy system, but the model is huge. Lots of pipe, conduit, duct, and several stp files made into rfas and cad files imported. it's very densely packed. and that's the problem.
I agree with Ric. Regular autosaves doesn't seem practical in Revit. This isn't a word document. Saving takes at best at least a few seconds.
It definitely sounds like there are some issues on your end. Whether your hardware isn't as up-to-date as you think, or if your models needs some leaner management. Or there could just be some issue with that model in particular.
