"OR" in filter rules

"OR" in filter rules

There is currently no "Or" capability in filter rules, which makes it very difficult/inefficient at times to filter.  For instance: assume I only want to see walls that contain CMU or Concrete in the type name.  I can create a filter for Just the concrete walls easily, and do the same for the CMU.  But one filter with OR could easily accomplish the task.

Yet another year!

Please make this happen, it's ludicrous that it's not a thing already

At the time of this writing, this feature is no longer posted to the Revit Public Roadmap.

@ks2_wmb this feature was never posted on the Revit Public Roadmap. The idea has been on here for 4 years with no traction.

How do we change that ?

Get people you know to vote on this idea. it's up to 332 votes, so it should garner attention. Unfortunately Autodesk doesn't seem to notice unless it's above 1000 votes.

Right on, I will tell my firm to check it out

@JeremyWeber-NSPJ have a look at this idea :
https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/quot-or-quot-in-filter-rules/idi-p/6322629/page/3#comment...
It's totally same and has 1500+ upvotes. Combined number of votes of both ideas exceeds 2000 which gets us to the point where idea should had been submitted and processed.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones is it possible to merge two branches? Also as far as I understood, the idea had already been submitted by Autodesk. As a submitted idea where does it go next and why don't we see it at Public Roadmap? Was it lost on a "Temp" board?

@roman.golev ,

Thank you. Yes, the original Idea has been accepted and is on our team's roadmap. Once it gets to a certain point in development and ready for testing, it will be added to our Revit Public Roadmap. Please do not ask "when" as we are unable to answer that question. Also please note that votes and the Revit Ideas in general are just one of the many criteria that our teams use to decide what goes into our development process. I suggest watching this YouTube video to learn more.

Thank you again, and I will combine these posts.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones

Thank you for letting us know that it is being worked on and will be available in Revit...eventually. While vague, it is better than assuming that is continues to be ignored. I'll be so stoked once it is implemented.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones thanks for the insight. I know you commented on my post at one point about Autodesk going through and cleaning up redundant ideas or combining similar ideas. I think this is a scenario again where the other idea was accepted and this one is just sitting here in limbo. The biggest feature still missing on the ideas board is the option for a user to remove a submitted idea if it turns out it's redundant. Hope to see this implemented soon.

I am with you !

It is also needed in schedule filters too.

Hello all, any traction for this ? This would be a huge time saver, plus it has now become a standard across all platforms since the first coders to include an "OR" command.

Hello,

Why is it that, when making a schedule, you can only filter with the 'and' function, and not an 'or' function? Isn't it possible to make it more like filters, where you can use the 'and' & 'or' function, add rules, add sets (see picture)?

The idea has been updated to Accepted, what can we expect now ?

@tlagardeAJBTA ,

Keep an eye on the Revit Public Roadmap and/or join the Revit Preview (beta) to follow progress on items that are currently in development. Note that an Accepted idea may be currently under development, or it may be on deck for future development and may not show up on the Public Roadmap yet. Of course, there are no guarantees or specific dates for inclusion.

On 2023 it's still impossible select, say, "all the walls of this OR that type, whith a certain thickness AND finuture, AND all the floors of those types at those levels". Selction that, strangely enough, is possible with the viewing filters. From this point of view Autcad is much powerful. Considering that we're working on a database, that should be a pretty trivial query. Today I have to serach for a sample elements, then select similar, then repeat for any single elemnt type, so I also need that it is been used in the curren view.
I simply wish to use the same interface of the viewing filters to select elements.

I hope you understand the optics of this... Autodesk has "accepted" this idea in 2016, it is now almost 2024 and this still has not been implemented. I understand the dev team has things on their list, but regardless of the reason 8 years for something simple like this is beyond unacceptable. Even your responses to this are several months or years apart! This doesn't make me want to waste my time posting or even voting on things if this is how seriously they are taken.

The pace of development in Revit is incredibly slow as it is. It wouldn't be so bad if half the features in Revit weren't broken or overly cumbersome. But that's not the case, hence the thousands of Idea's to fix those things. Add to that, the fact that Idea's are seemingly "accepted" at random, or rather, the easiest to implement are accepted before those with many more votes. I really don't understand the point of this Idea board if you are going to ignore the vast majority of ideas, accept only the easiest ones, and then take several years to even implement those.

@a_kralkay ,

I certainly understand the frustration and the feeling that our development teams are not moving fast enough. This is something that is in development, and unfortunately we do not have a magic wand to make it happen immediately. There are times when development changes and other things have to take priority. Also, things that may seem like an "easy fix" to non-software developers really aren't. We have to make sure that what we deliver works correctly before it goes to market and that takes an extensive QA process. We also try to balance those Ideas that really are easy to implement with Ideas that take more time...it really depends on product team workload. Again, I encourage anyone who wants to have a deeper connection with our product teams and provide feedback directly to the people who make the software to become active in the Revit Preview Release.
