Provide Surface Area for Curtain System

Curtain Systems do not report a surface area. This information is needed by construction estimators. The total area is needed for consistent and efficient model based quantity take-off and 5D estimating.

Currently, extensive work is needed to calculate the Square Footage SF of Curtain Systems...

• Users must identify which mullions and glazing panels are hosted to Curtain Systems.
• Then users need combine the area of Curtain Panels with the area of the face only of Curtain Wall Mullions.
• The Surface Area of the mullion face is not provided by Revit. Only the total surface area of all 6 faces of the mullion. Construction Estimators only need the surface area of the front face.
• To determine the SF of the Curtain Wall Mullions users must manually determine the face width of the mullion and multiply this by the linear feet (LF) of that type of mullion.
• Then the Mullion Face SF and Curtain Panel SF can be combined.

This workflow has opportunities for manual and calculation errors that could be resolved by Revit providing the total Square Footage for Curtain Systems.

Well said! I was going through that painful process for a while when I was an Estimator. One little helpful thing you can do for now Is to use Glue to measure the Surface area, the 3D interface is pretty good for measuring purposes., however it doesn't save the data and you need to manually take care of that. Hopefully this feature will be added soon
